Good Morning,

So far no real updates, the Service Manager has already got BMW NA involved in trying to figure out these issues. The hunch is that they are still only software related and that there is something that is setting them off.

The Service Manager is currently at the BMW headquarters in Woodcliff Lakes NJ for an unrelated meeting and hopefully will bring up my situation.

They are doing all kind of tests right now, though not changing any actual parts.

As I know more, I will keep you updated.

Thank You!

PS. I received a 528xi loaner this time and at least it has Nav so it deffinetly helps...

That's more like it, but still not much room for 3 kids. All in car seats?

Having read your entire story, you really have me scared. Currently have a 2011 X5 50i was going into a Mineral White X5 50i with almost the same options, however, not quite as extensive. I tried to order it buy the dealer told me that the 20" wheels are on backorder until Jan/Feb time table, so I'll probably wait until then to order. I swore that I would never buy the first year of a car build, and see what I'm doing! I am reading with interest on the final disposition and I will make my decision then. It will be the X5 50i or the MB ML550. I live about 2 hours away from either dealer so unlike you, I can't hop to a dealer 20-30 minutes away. I hope it's just a software issue!!

Update: I just received an e-mail update from James the Service Manager at Open Road BMW of Edison that they now think it is the Steering Rack that is causing these issues. I hate it when things need to be removed and replaced on a Brand new SAV as there is chance for them to scratch the Nappa leather on the wheel, door panels, dash board and/or seats besides the fact that the car may become rattle prone due to not installing things as tight as the factory would.

This is just unreal, but wait there's more...they are still investigating further as this may not solve all of the issues...

Ill keep you posted.

Thank You!

Man, I really feel sorry for you and the issues that you are having. Seems the more I read your problems the more I don't want to order a new X5 and the more the MB ML550 is looking good! Somehow, I really don't understand all of the issues. I mean they really change that much internally (at least I don't think), it is mostly a body and mechanical change. The layout looks "almost" the same, so I really don't get it. Maybe there's more to it than I think!

What really concerns me on your update is that "they THINK it is the Steering Rack". Thus, they are not sure what is causing the issue. Be careful with the game of the service department "trying" to figure out what is wrong. Very similar to my case on the first X5 I got in 2006 where the car had all types of electrical issues and they changed a bunch of stuff to figure out later the electrical issue was back.

We appreciate the update. Many owners feel for you. If they haven't started the work specify that you would like the most experienced mechanics to perform the work. Express your concerns and ask them to take note of them all. To cover themselves they would rather say likely than be definite in the root cause. Hopefully it will do the trick and all's good.

Update:

The Service Manager has been great, Utilizing my knowledge base of the BMW operational system and implementing the accurate lingo plus the Service Managers understanding for my pain he was just able to offer me a buy back/trade assistance.

Here is the offer from him....

1.Order an identical SAV
2.Drive the loaner 528xi until the new SAV arrives (Production in January so figure February delivery).
3. Pay me back for the months that I did not have the use of the SAV.

I think that I will take this offer as I cant drive a car that will have been taken apart and truly feel that it has been and/or will be Beta Tester for the F15 1.0 platform.

Nothing is set in stone, although it seems as though this is what we are going to try and achieve.

Ill continue to update this thread as I have more news.

Nice to hear BMW stepped up. It sounds like a very fair offer and the free use of a 528xi ain't too bad.

Sounds like a good plan. Use of the loaner indefinitely is good service.

It does sound like a good offer especially since it won't cost you any out of pocket money, only your inconvenience which they are making good by a suitable loaner. Still, I would document everything in their offer........just in case!

Sounds like their offer is the way to go. Keeping the original and going through this is comparable to the diminished value of a car having been in a wreck and repaired. It may get repaired ok, but it's never really the same, especially in your mind. Perception is reality. There is a reason we buy new cars as opposed to used... peace of mind. You won't have that if you stay with the original.

Good for you. This seems like the best possible resolution of a really, really unfortunate situation.

We all look forward to the videos of you happily taking delivery of your new PROBLEM FREE vehicle next year.

Huge kudos to Open Road and BMW NA for coming up with this solution. No manufacturer is perfect, and it's nice to know BMW takes care of its customers in situations like this.

I would add ventilation seats, the car looks even more exclusive especially with that color combo.
