Halogen foglight bulb swap?
Hey guys, I got the Weiss LED bulbs since I don't have the LED package for my X5.
Has anyone swapped the fog light bulb on the X5 yet? I'm looking at the bumper - on the X70 you pop the bottom grill to get behind the fog - same practice with the F15? Just wondering if anyone has done this or any tips? |

Fogs in Canada are def not LED standard. These are halogens that come with the Xenon headlights.
The housing should remove the same as the LED however. Has anyone removed them? Looks like a tab that holds them but diagrams show bolts behind. - I just want an easy way to reach behind and swap the bulb out which is just a simple twist bulb connector. |

I asked my buddy to take a look at my fogs (they are LED) for you to see how to get easy access to them. Hopefully, he gets time to take a look. If so, I'll let you know.

I saw whole bunch of LED fogs for sale on eBay last month. Many where new with broken tabs. I am guessing if you are not careful you can break the tabs easily. I also read somewhere that people have mounted the LED fogs on various Toyotas and Toyota trucks, so I am going to guess it is not a complicated swap.
You may want to take a look there as I recall prices were low. I don't know if it requires coding however. It seems every aspect of the car is coded, so if you change your floor mats you might get an error code (joke ends). |

@Xtremery, my friend is going to take a look at my LED fogs tonight to see whether access to the bulbs is easy or not. I'll update you tonight or tomorrow morning after I hear back from him. He's going to be busy all night after he gets off from work wrapping everything up on my car.

Let me know what you find out OP...I've been wanting to swap mine out to LED or Superwhite option. The "yellow-ish" OE bulbs look horrible with the factory xenons.

If it's expensive, I recommend, Kensun 5000k 35w with premium ballasts for the fogs: http://www.amazon.com/Kensun-Convers...n+5000k+fog+h7. All you need is the relay load resistor harness (http://www.amazon.com/Kensun-Convers...ad+resistor+h7) to fool the BMW to thinking you still have the OEM bulbs installed. I have them in both our Infinitis' fogs, and they are very bright and match the factory xenon/led color.
Or you can get LEDs: http://www.bimmian.com/WeissLicht-LE...or-BMW-F15-X5/. I have their Amber turn signal LEDs and they are fantastic. From this website it shows they fogs are h7 bulbs: http://www.xenondepot.com/2014-x5-hi...bs-s/30248.htm.

Ok guys, so I asked my friend and he said you have to drop the bumper or take off the lower valance (the plastic piece that covers up everything underneath the vehicle). Either way it's the same amount of work. He said IF your hand is small enough, you can try jamming your hands through the lower grilles and see if you can reach the bulbs (not very likely to happen). Sorry guys, looks like you'll have to get a professional to do it if you don't have the tools to do it yourself.

Thanks for asking your guy Opasha, I still had some doubt that BMW would engineer something that way requiring someone to remove the bumper to change a light bulb. Turns out that the fogs clip at the top actually release the whole housing and pulls out from the front.
I have a PDF of the way to do it from them if anyone is interested. I haven't attempted it yet but will give it a go this weekend. I ended up getting the WeissLicht LED bulbs. |

So I got a set of led OEM fogs and I was able to take off the halogen style, both housings are totally different for removal. Halogen have a clip tab that pop off with a flat head screw driver, LED style requires you to get in there and remove 3 bolts.
I'm wondering if there is a way to code the LED fogs into my application with the xenon headlamps. |

No no, I mean can I swap in the actual OEM Led fogs housings with xenon as my headlights.
I got the led bulbs as a temp right now in the halogen style fogs. |

Nevermind, I understand your question now. You want to put the same Weissleicht LED fog bulbs into the xenon headlights. I don't think it works that way - you'd have to code the errors out (I don't even know where to begin on headlight error coding tests - I would have to look that up). It's definitely not that simple.
