How many people in the US would buy the X5 M50D?

I know i'd drop 100-110k in a heartbeat if we could get one here. Anyone else? Its a shame we can't have it here

You have M5 and you want M50d? Why ? Petrol engine 50i is better then m50d in my opinion (acceleration, sound). You love diesel now ?

I have an M5 but i also have an X5 35D. I would take the M50D over the X5M in a heartbeat. I love the 35d but the M diesel i would REALLY love. I have mixed feelings on my M5 anyways. If it were AWD i would love it. As it is here in NE Ohio it just does not have enough traction to enjoy it.

Torque, MPG. Cool factor. Fast diesel! Less people would expect it.

No thanks. For that kind of money, it would not be an SUV....

I would do vice versa: trade my X5 M50d onto the new X5M in a heartbeat if our CO2 taxes (import duties, the Ms go for 170k+ EUR here) weren't ridiculously high. The only good thing about the M50d is the low consumption fact (although I do manage to raise it from circa 12.7l to 20l if I push the limits ). Torque - even though I have 840 nm of it now with ACS tune - all that torque is kinda useless when you do a rolling pull from 100-130 km/h. Sure, it's nice up till that area, but afterwards the petrol simply destroys the diesel.

Don't get me wrong though, N57D30S1 is a beautiful and very technological engine - probably the best out there now. But an M is an M... I don't know anything about the cool factor of a diesel in EU (maybe in America, dunno). And the sound of petrol engines with exhausts like Meisterschaft... well, let me put it this way: when I'm in Sport or Sport+ on M50d I have nice artificial sounds inside, but as soon as I roll the windows down...

I will buy a petrol over a diesel any given day. Not that I don't love diesels. I do. But I'd buy one only if I am doing more than 40-50k miles a year on family trips. With 10k miles a year gasoline is actually cheaper here in EU as you pay premium both for the vehicle and the fuel afterwards.

I agree, an M is an M. I'd take 50i over M50D already, they cost similarly anyway.

Very likely I would get the 40d or 50d.

I have to admit that I would have loved to order a 40d or 50d if they were available here. Better mileage and more power.

If the 50i and the 50d were within a "few" bucks of each other, I would look at the 50d, but I wouldn't spend $100,000+ on one, no way.

If that was the case just buy a 50I and get a tune!
