Disabling TPMS for winter

Just fitted some 19" wheels with Vredestein winter tyres. My summer 20" are run flat and have the pressure valves fitted but my winter wheels/tyres are non run flat and so I don't have or need the valves. I just plan to carry a puncture repair kit and pump or throw a jack, wrench and one of the 20" rims in the boot if I'm on a long journey. I think it will be quickly apparent if I get a puncture! Anyway just wondered if there is any way of turning the system off completely in the car i-drive system during the winter as now I get a continuous warning that the system cannot read the pressures. I don't really want to spend the money on getting TPMS valves fitted to my winter wheels/tyres as they are not really needed.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

@rockdoc1971, you will need to code it. I believe it is in the HU_NBT module, I forget what it's called.

Ah, OK thanks R33, bit of a nuisance as I don't know anything about coding or how to go about getting that done.

Just buy the ENET cable, and I will send you the files you need. From there, I can show you how to setup everything and guide you on the coding. If you ever want to learn on your own, my videos take care of everything.

This is the code, but I'm not sure if more needs to be done other than disabling it:

Tire Pressure and Temperature on Vehicle Status/HU_NBT/3001/RDC_DRUCK_TEMP/none

Thanks Opasha, looks pretty complex, by the time I get everything and work it out I might as well just get the valves for the wheels fitted!

No problem, bud. It's really not that difficult. The only part you need to do is "download" the software and buy the enet cable ($20 - your only expense since I don't charge for coding help). From there, I can do the rest. It takes me about 10 minutes to set everything up. Coding that particular code would take 1 minute. Either way, good luck .

Hi Rockdoc. Silly question but why did you buy non RF Winter Tyres?
I have just swapped to my 19" Pirelli's today from the 20" Conti's.

Because of the extra expense as I will only be using them for 3, maybe 4 months in the UK. I don't really like run flats either (had problems with them on my 335i in the past, the harder sidewalls destroyed my OEM rims).

Thanks Opasha, I would have to source a cable here in the UK, not too difficult on e-bay, then reluctantly install Windows software on my Mac as I don't have access to a Laptop.
Will have a hunt around and see if I can come up with a set of valve sensors in the meantime.

TPMS in Canada

Can someone confirm if the stock wheels on Canadian F15s have a TPMS installed?

Thanks

Why didn't you just buy another set of sensors. $250 for a set from getbmwparts.com. No issues with sensor warnings and you will have the benefit of know when your tires are low.

Mine no , as the tire stems were rubber rather than metal. Some BMW Canada tire packages can be with or without the TMPS, about $400 more for the wheel sensors.

You can see it from the type of Valve Stems on the wheels or shoot me the last 7 of your VIN and I'll look it up.

Because here in the UK they cost way more than $250.

Thanks for checking Ben. I'm pretty sure that the valve stem has a rubberised feel to it rather than metal.

Since I did get an alert in idrive the last time I had a screw in my tire, this would imply that the Canadian F15s use the tire rotation speed to monitor for pressure drop. This would have the benefit of not needing 2 sets of TPMS for summer and winter wheels.

Hmmm...if I added TPMS to my wheels, would the vehicle use those readings instead???

Unfortunately, the TPMS sensors is only part of the transmitter. You will need the receiver module. Not sure if it is in the car already and just need to be coded.

Thanks, had a read through the posts. And yes sometimes these modern things are just too good for their own benefit. Just wish I could hit OK and be done with it and then just hit reset once the wheels with valves are back on in the summer. I don't need reminding every time I start the car that the system is inactive. Ho hum, so long as the wheels have air and are still round I'm happy.

Help us help you better...what model/model year BMW are you asking about? The car info that is visible to the forum doesn’t appear to be an f15/f16 X5/X6....so its hard to point you in the right direction to find the info you seek.
