Hey mate, I have been trying to figure out whether I should buy a 2014 Cayenne Turbo or to get a new X5 50i. Finally decided on the F15 beacuse of a huge loyalty discount and the ability to reclaim back the VAT (7 seaters get that benefit here).

I'm still wondering if I made the right choice and would really love to hear your input whenever you get your X5 - how does it truly compare to the Cayenne.

It's for people that need easier turning. Some say it adds in handling. I disagree. If you want full control over your vehicle without the car helping you steer in anyway, leave this out. Not worth it if you're a tight suspension driver to begin with.

I have the Mocha Interior Design Package and the feel of the leather and the looks is fantastic. The leather is on the dash and the upper portion of the door paned and on the center console. Combined with the contrast stitching the interior is beautiful to the eye and the touch. I am sure you will be very happy with your decision.

What is the best Non Runflat Tire for the 20" Wheels
First thing to go are the Runflats. Have the Space Saver Spare. No need for them.

There's plenty of info on the web, but basically it increases the turning capabilities at slow speed (like in the city) and decreases the speed at which the steering reacts at higher speed (stability and decreased over-control). The thought is, you have the best of both worlds. It worked pretty well on my 550i, but then again, that is a 4500 lb sedan built for touring, not racing or super handling.

I think an earlier poster stated it well when he said it will take some time to get used to the twitchy steering this SUV has at higher speed. Remember, you bought a big heavy luxury SUV that handles well for its size - it's not a Porsche. Same platform (or class of vehicle), different execution.

I've driven the new X5 and GTS. The X5's ride is much smooth than GTS which is quite firm. Steering feel on the GTS is much better. Brake feel sucks on the GTS. There is so much travel in the pedal. X5 is better daily driver than the GTS but the GTS is much rarer and special. There are a lot of X5s on the road. Your 50i would look like a 35i. I would've kept the GTS as it is more fun to drive than the new X5. The new X5 is more isolated, relaxed than the sportier GTS. I agree the V8 sounds good but lacks low end torque. I think the reason it lacks low end torque is the transmission stinks on the Cayenne. I drove Panamera 4S with the same V8 engine and it did NOT lack low end torque. Cayenne needs at least a ZF transmission rather than the poorly designed Aisin transmission.

In your driving comparison, did you drive the X5 F15 50i? The GTS is a fantastic vehicle, and no one is knocking it's rarity and solid suspension. For the money, the 50i is the whole package esp with DHP.

The 50i has more power but feels heavier in the corners than the 35i. The engine is more laggy than the engine in the GTS. The X5 seems too lazy and lax in its responses. I waiting for the new X5 M to address these issues.

You're absolutely right. This is why I got a tune chip (RaceChip TB Ultimate) and not only is the lag gone, it's much much faster/more responsive.

The Dynamic Handling Package Should Address this issue...

Nope, it will only address the cornering/handling. DHP has nothing to do with engine/throttle response. It's a suspension upgrade, not an engine upgrade.

The Cayenne GTS has less power and Torque. Could it be possible since its a larger NA V8 vs a smaller Turbo V8?

Yeah, I think that could be why, but I'm not that familiar with how different NA and turbos are since this is my first turbo V8. I'll ask my cousin. He's owned both kinds of vehicles and has far more knowledge than me on engines. I'm sure other members could definitely address the differences better. Let's wait and see on some responses .

If you get mocha design package or standalone leather dash, its black. The leather dash with the ivory interior design package is a beautiful grey with a hint of beige. It looks really nice with the contrast stitching.

Drove X5 and GTS/S/Base Cayenne within 1 hour. I have a 997.2 GT3 and a 2015 991 GT3 on order and love Porsches.....but we thought the Cayenne sucked. The brake feel was so poor and the transmission flat out sucked. Yes the steering feel was better than the X5 but that was it. We went and grabbed an X5 and haven't looked back!!

i just dont think i agree...

since day 1 i guess i was flogging my 50i and put it through its paces. i definitely ran it in hard. and it has been perfect ever since.... in sport mode, i had plenty of get up and go and it was not laggy or slow in response....yes it did have a lag from a dead stop as do all turbo cars, especially 4wheel drive models because of the immense torque being applied gradually via the tranny and transfer case.. but this is only dead stop, and there are ways and techniques around this.

the tune has only woken the bat up and now to have an X5-M with all the options in my x5 would be 115k or more. OTD

i spent under 90k with alittle haggling and for a few hundred, im pulling crazy power with superb handling...yes the exhaust i purchased is extremely expensive, but it will be meaner then hell(GTHAUS)

I drive a 2003 X5 4.4i daily and to this day it is still the best SUV to drive beating the 2013 GTS and new X5 on feel. Yes, these SUVs are more comfortable and handle much better, but are not as engaging and fun as the E53 4.4i. The E53 feels torquier and much faster than the new GTS or X5. Steering feel is better than the GTS and X5 which I find to both too light. I have new electric cable and exhaust so it might be bit sportier to drive than stock. I will wait on the X5 M to see how it drives. I've had the X5 for 11 years and in the 11 years I'm been searching for the perfect vehicle to replace my X5, but they have all failed in feel.

I just ordered my car and received around $5600 off MSRP without having to use any incentives. My MSRP was around $64,000. I am doing performance delivery.

+1! I loved loved loved my E53. I had it for 7y and it got too expensive to maintain. I switched to an E70, but I found it a little too lumbering even with adaptive drive. I switched to an E71 after 1y with the E70 and it was a much better fit for me. It's size is closer to the E70 and drives like a demon.

With that line up of cars I would personally not worry much for you have a car for every occasion you may want. BMW tech miles ahead of Porsche so you won't regret.
