I'm just going to drill the wholes out and then epoxy. I got some loctite plastic epoxy that is water proof and actually melts the plastic together from Home Depot

For 35i, it is much easier. You can do it from the bottom cover also. If have access to a lift, it is much easier. Unless if you are planning to change the grill to an open grill, then you will still need to open up the fender liner.

There's 4 pegs that go through the grill and then 4 metal clips slide onto those pegs to lock them on. That's why you have to take the fender liners out. Since our stock grills have the markings for the holes, but the holes aren't drilled out yet, we have to drill for the pegs to slide in. I'm just going to epoxy and then slide the pegs in. Some people say the trim is wobbly with the metal clips and they have to epoxy anyways.

FYI, you don't need to drill the holes, they are open already.

These M50d stripes look awesome on a white car.
I have a mineral white and have been thinking about doing this except epoxying the strip in instead on using the lock washers. Got the idea from this member. I think it looks great!!!

Just installed these on our sDrive and it was pretty much a snap. The self locking retainers get very tight if you push on the trim piece from the front while locking them down. I see no need to attach them to the Bumper where people mentioned using foam tape.

r33, I thought your write up was good. A few points of constructive feedback though... For people who are changing from closed to open grills, there is no mention of how to remove/replace them. It was rather intuitive, but it had me scrolling through the instructions to see if I had missed a section. There's also no mention of how to install the new white plastic rivets. I came to the board to learn that they are just pulled to yield type things. That's different from the e70 fender flare rivets so I was confused for a moment. Last thing, the left side only has one black plastic fastener, vice the two that your instructions mention, so a person starting with the left insert will hunt around for the second one until he realizes it's just not there. Other than that, it got me through the job with no bloody knuckles and no new scratches on the car so thanks for the write up! They look awesome.

@Chiplee, Congrats on the install.
I will update the DIY instruction once I got a chance to do another one in house.

That would be #3.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...32&hg=51&fg=70

IMO, it is not easier, since you don't have a nice position for you to reach in and push the locking ring.
But, it is do-able. Maybe easier if you have the car up on the lift with that removed.
My DIY is for you who work on it at the driveway and doesn't have access to a lift.

I just used the metal retainer rings on each post. Seems to be holding solid for me.

Looks beautiful! Every time you guys make the Space Grey look better, a part of me wishes I got this color (my second choice), especially considering my current work in progress . Nice job, Ivan .
This thread resurrected, got carbon black car now, as i said earlier i will not add these on, seems to be OK with carbon black, otherwise i think these m50d inserts are a must
