I think your best solution is these:
Continentals ExtremeContact DWS and a Space Saver Spare tire. It really sucks that they didn't tell you about the performance tires but I don't think you should pay those crazy prices they are quoting you either or run 19s for half the year. If you just want 20s all year round and not to fuss with changing wheels or tires every season, this is a great solution. |

It was pretty well evident in all the literature and on the configurator that the 20's came with the performance tires. I love the look of the 20's and at $950, they are the most reasonably priced option on the whole list. Buy a great all-season set like the Contis, sell the originals as takeoffs at wholesale, and pat yourself on the back for building a fantastic looking X5 and working through the challenge.

I'm in the opposite situation. I wasn't sold on the look of the 20's, so stuck with the 19's. But still want a winter set and now, 2 months after delivery, haven't found a winter set I like and also don't like how the 19's fill the rear wheel well with m sport package (they don't at all....). So I am now looking more for a 20" summer set and will turn my 19's into winters. This is the more expensive way to go, since 20's will cost me more than a 19" winter set, and I still need to buy a set of 19" winter tires. I sort of regret not just taking the $950 upgrade ($10 a month in a lease). Even in a purchase, 950 + winter set is less than 0 + summer set + 19" winter tires. Long story short, while the unexpected expense sucks, I think you may be happy in the end if you get a winter set and see the difference over all-seasons in the winter. Also, you should be able to find a 19" winter set closer to $3000. Problem is even in December when we got our X5, supplies were limited for the new model, at least in 19". |

The Continental tire is not Run Flat, so the dealer also mentioned we can get the BridgeStone Dueler HP Sport runflat: http://www.bridgestonetire.ca/tire/dueler-hp-sport-as

The continental is a much better reviewed tire especially for ice and snow traction. I would go for those and the space saver spare as I mentioned unless you're set on run flats.

WRT the miscommunication:
Canadian configurator didn't work for me. US pricing guides state that 20" are performance (summer tires) Can pricing guides state that 20" are mixed. I was going to get the 20" for $995, a great price on the surface. Harder to get snows or Nokians for 20", so I declined them. I did not want two sets of wheels. Dealer should have advised you. Option. Decline the 20's and accept the 19's and save $995. |

Good that you did not p/up car yesterday as the 20's are still new. It will involve three parties, you/parts/sales. In a month customers will want summer tires so parts can sell them and they will also need spares for replacements. If you are a repeat customer, sales will take care of you. You seem interested in protection packages. So make a deal, key is not to NOT use the 20's. Alternatively, buy 19's and sell the 20's on consignment. Easier to deal them if new.

^^^ UK orders:
Hope you guys get as spec'd A/S. You may want to check the option code ( and VIN decoder) For N/America 20's are 451, 469M, 491 supposedly Perf/tires. For SC production, I assume that they would a different number to denote what tire to install ( A/S vs perf.). Hope this gives more clarity. |

No - my dealer sent it me so I could check against the sales invoice. It looks as though it's come directly from the dealer's system.
Code for All-season Tyres is 927 if it helps |
