Are F15 N55's prone to spun rob bearing issues and engine seizing after OFHG change?
As the title states, are you F15 guys seeing any of these rod bearing issues and engine seizing after oil filter housing gasket work, that the E9X N55 guys experience?
In the market for an SUV, preferably 2017 X5 35i. |

I think a lot of F15s are still too young in the mileage department to need the OFHG done. With that being said I’ve done mine at 100k. I personally had no issues with it. It was done DIY and I’m slow and meticulous. Of course this is just one sample out of thousands.
I think in general this issue has been exaggerated in the N54/55 community with some very prevalent posts on forums. While I’m not saying it didn’t happen, the rate of failure has to be miniscule. There is also no agreed upon reason for the failure, all speculation and theory at this point. Reasons include a lack of priming leading to oil starvation, air bubbles in the chambers/oil lines, oil/coolant soaked belts being thrown off before or after repair, debris in the lines, and general neglect with the service. There’s also a discrepancy between the types of OFH installed on each engine, BMW has switched between oil cooler lines and coolant lines; I believe there’s 4 different part numbers. The F15 won’t have any different outcome than any other N55 engine produced from 2014+ in other models. The F15 is specifically a N55B30M0. I’m not sure this particular chance of failure from repair of another issue would stop me from buying an F15, but I can’t answer that for you.

Theirs many posts I found where the n55 dies shortly after the change. So many died bmw made a bulletin to run a priming procedure after the change and that doesn't always work. One mechanic had three n55's blow in his dealership after the oil filter housing gasket change. Seems to hit higher milage engines worse as the variable displacement oil pump in the n55 doesn't seem to prime very well on the older engines. But this was on an e70 not the F15 |
