This mule has another positioning of the fog lights, which looks much better.

Not donning my flame suit, this is the X6 forum!
The x6 always seemed pointless to me though...it horrible off road only seats 4 instead of 5, has a swooping roofline that ruins rear and blind spot views and the trunk isn't that big and to add its a gas guzzler. Why no buy a decent sports car? But I guess to each his own

1) Since you have a 4wd 3-series, I'm assuming that you know that there are very good reasons for driving a 4wd vehicle that have absolutely nothing to do with off roading.

2) 4 instead of 5? You're behind the times. My 2012 I bought 2.5 years ago seats 5.

3) Blindspot, splindspot. Drive with your gigantic mirrors. Now some of those 3- series coupes with tiny mirrors and no backup cameras are downright dangerous. Well, in my hands anyway. Since learning how to properly use mirrors at the PC, I've had way less 'close calls' in my low visibility x6 than I had in a lot of years of sedans and 10 years in various high visibility x5s.

4) And you can get how many suitcases in your 3-series? Mine holds more than my dad's Lincoln Town Car. No one would EVER say the trunk of a town car is 'not that big'. I can also get over 40 bags of mulch in it. 50" flat screen without laying it down? No. But I couldn't do that in my X5 either.

The X6 has just as much room from the back hatch to the back of the 2nd row. If you don't like your packing to rise above the bottom of the head rests so you can see out the back window, then you can get just as much in it as an x5. If you couldn't I'd be leaving bags at home. Which I'm not.

5) Gas guzzler? I own that. But I only get 16mpg in all my 335 loaners, so I don't feel so bad about it. (You get 0mpg at stop signs and lights... I get bad mpg in everything). I got 19mpg in my x5 35d. Horrifying.

6) Decent sports car? Because my behind would be too close to the ground, it probably wouldn't be 4wd, I wouldn't be able to pack for a family of five for a trip to the beach for a week, and I probably wouldn't get better mpg than I do now. That sum it up?

In addition to what Barbja said, I will say this -

1. Off road the X6 has the same exact capabilities as the X5. Neither of them are a Range Rover, but both are respectable. You should go to the BMW Performance Center and do the off road course. I have, and it's impressive.

2. My X6M has 5 seats. It's a $350 option for those so inclined.

3. Swooping roofline makes the car beautiful and aggressive. If you know how position your rear view mirrors then you will not have a blind spot. You should not see the sides of your car in the mirrors. This is a neat trick few people are aware of. Rear view is not as good as in say a van, but enough for daily driving. There is also a reverse camera for parking. This isn't a big deal.

4. The trunk is actually again the same size as X5 except up top. How often do you fill up the car to the brim? I can tell you in my previous X6 35i, I fit an entire costco shopping including the largest Traeger Texas Elite grill, into the car (seats folded down). I've fit an entire crib (disassembled) in there, a small refrigerator, and other various such items. For anything bigger, rent a U-Haul

5. The X6 35i was definitely not a gas guzzler. My X6M is one, but she's supposed to be. Again, X5 is the same with the same engine options, so I am not sure how this only applies to the X6.

The X6 has much more space than a sports car for big costco shoppings and for when you have two kids. However I do plan on getting an i8 as a stable mate to my X6M, but the X6M will still remain my trusty and very fast DadMobile!

You're right, to each their own.

I was planning to buy a X6 in 2011. The one major factor that lead me to go with the new X3 was the headroom at the rear...when comparing the X3 and X6, although smaller, but the X3 has more room in the back than the X6 (headroom and overall feeling I mean)
I was hoping that issue would be resolved in the new GEN...but by the looks of it, the new X6 will have the same issue...
thoughts folks?

An X6 with normal rear headroom would be an X5

I'm not trying o bash your car the x6 is still a cool car but to me just seems like a money grabbing scheme by BMW by creating another niche car

I look at it differently. It's a cool car with an aggressive stance that is great to look at and drive. It drives way better than you expect it to drive. If you don't like it, there are many other cars that may be easier on the eyes. But for many of people here with kids, I think this car gives us a great alternative to a minivan and a way to drive a sports car without compromising the rear two seats and the trunk space. I've had this car for three years and I can tell you I've rarely needed extra space in the back and the kids have always enjoyed the seats in the back. X5 looks too boring compared to X6.

I hear you but there are those who are willing to pay the premium to have something different.

So the tyres were correct, but they were wrongly fitted. In what way?

Different tires have different attributes, so they will display different strengths and weaknesses depending on the environment.

Summer tires are made of a material that are very sticky, and have a tread pattern that is usually straight or like a track that flex and grip asphalt like Spider-man, but those same tire won't do so well on grass with a coat of dew on it, like in the Top Gear video.

Winter tires are desingned with a more intricate tread pattern that dig into uneven or loose terrain, and are made of a rubber that is tough and durable, and can handle a wet grass climb uphill.

I said it earlier in this thread that you wouldn't go hiking in the mountains with running shoes on... the same priciple applies in this situation.

Totally agree! It's a head-turning statement piece and there is nothing boring/ blasé about it. It's the un-SUV.

Don't know if I would call the X6 a "mans Car". I see more woman driving them then men.

To each their own. I've seen maybe 2 women and mostly men otherwise driving X6's, compared to mostly women and a few men driving X5's. This is down here in South Florida.

That, coupled with the more aggressive and sporty stance of the X6, was the basis for my comment.

Anyway, I like both cars just like the X6 better

Top Gear video had summer tires on the X6 - the Range Rover would have done the exact same thing if it had/came with summer tires. But since people don't buy a Range Rover for sporting intentions, it does not come with summer tires.

BMW does in fact make a LOT of money off of the X6. They sell about 6,000 a year here in the states but an additional 35,000+ overseas (they are EVERYWHERE in China). Moneygrabbing? Um, yes, they are in the business to make money...

The headroom in the X6 is not so good. The lack of grab handles makes things worse. I'm pretty sure several people have suffered bad head injuries getting in my car.

The X6 is a truck - an extremely capable truck (that can even be optioned with summer tires ), but still a truck. It does however have style - which you either like or dislike. Audi/MB/and even Maserati are coming out with competitors. Yes, this is a new segment and it is growing.

Me? I've enjoyed my X6 and so has my wife (my first BMW since my 1995 325 that she actually likes). But I'm back to a car after this.
