Craftsmanship is up to the bar, but anywhere ABOVE, but reliability.... Enough to look at the sales figures ( here in US). Numbers are inconvenient.

LOL, you are right. Let them be. I just got a bit ticked by the article which started all this. Like X5 is a little underdog here trying to be near big boys, like you know, volvo...

I played with the volvo "tech". I prefer idrive. To each their own. The volvo tech is very impressive show a friend. The big prob is the hvac controls because it is essentially all touch screen which takes longer than actual knobs and buttons plus it can be quite dangerous while in motion. BMW definitely should add touch screen functionality to make it easier to enter nav destinations, etc. This is where volvo shines.

Convinient in some areas, but having all touch like the new XC90 is Clumsy and time consuming, AND dagerous when driving imo. It makes for a clean looking interiour though. Volvo have a solid market in Scandinavia, the aging XC60 is actually selling very well (not sure why?). The original XC90 have been on the market in 12 years, i guess Volvo fans are desperate after something new. I was at an exclusive presentation before the official one, and people were very excited. Volvo have gone all in with this car, good the see it's doing well, allthough they stopped manufactoring the XC90 due do some issues. It's huge and boxy, and will age fast, like all Volvo's imo.

I've driven other similar sized and weighted SUVs, and the x5 has handled the best so far. I'M not fortunate enough to have a fun car and a family hauler, so my family hauler needs to be as fun as it can. |

I love how butthurt everyone gets when it's suggested that one car might be better than the X5.
You realize we all drive a mass-market SUV made by Americans in South Carolina, right? BMW's SUV lineup isn't some aspirational vehicle line for the jet set. It's a money machine for the boys in Munich, and one which grows softer and les classically BMW with every generation. The XC90 is an outstanding vehicle, and to poo-poo it simply because "it's a Volvo" is foolish as best. |

Do you realize it is a dead argument? Literally 3 sec google search will reveal that BMW outsells volvo by a huge margin.

Do you realize that U.S. Sales figures are absolutely meaningless in a discussion of whether the RR Sport or the Volvo XC90 is a better SUV? It's a dumb point to begin with. The Ford Explorer outsells the X5. Must be a better vehicle, right? Secondly, if a poster is going to make a comment about "but the RELIABILITY" then he should have something to back that up. BMW is not known for reliability or the low cost of ownership that comes with it. Those are the numbers to which I refer. Yes, everyone knows the X5 outsells a first-year Volvo and much more expensive RR Sport (you can option a V6 into the 90s). |
