Just finished retrofitting NBT EVO/ATM into my 2015 x5. Happy with the results, CarPlay full screen works! Thanks OP sj22 for answering my questions. Changed the unit, atm, upgraded to touch screen and newer controller. Chinese wi fi antenna works but gives an error in ista, so ordered oem one. Everything coded to my vin, will be resoldering the sim from tcb to new atm for connected drive services.

I'm so at a loss here, I have a 2015 X5 F15 date is Feb 2015. I want to do this retrofit with touchscreen and don't even know where to start. everything I'm reading seems way out of my league. I've looked at some of the. Bimmertech stuff and it seems pretty straight forward. just not sure if the MMI or the other retrofit is the way to go. any advise from those if you who have done it?

Wait, you can transfer the sim to keep Connected services on your original vin?

Also let us know how the ATT 3G phase out affects you. Will it tell you that you are not eligible for service because it checks your vin and thinks your car is 3g even though now it is actually 4g?

I have an Andream/Carlinkit MMI installed on my 2015 and I love it, is it perfect? No, but it's so good to the point where for me it would not be justifiable to drop so much money for a retrofit. This isn't the right thread for this info, so I'll drop some links, the F30 forum has an in depth thread on Andream/Bimmertech/Carlinkit.

Trying to confirm.

If a donor ATM with an active subscription but coded to the vehicle's VIN instead, BMW Connected Drive will allow renewal even after the donor subscription expires?

ATM VIN can not be changed, you actually code the donor VIN into your head unit. Post #60

ATM vins cannot be changed. And ATM vin should match HU VIN if you want data from ATM. So best way is to put a filter and change the HU vin. Remember to flash the HU fully not just use the certs to change the vin.

Learning. :-). Helpful.

My 2015 X5 will not longer receive Connected Drive services in Feb 2022.

Let's assume donor ATM has an active subscription until 2024.

Will BMW deactivate Connected Services in Feb 2022 assuming the vehicle still has 3G hardware?

Or - Connected Drive services will work until 2024?

Will renewal be possible after 2024?

Connected driver services are VIN based, so if you donor module came from 2018 X5 you just add new VIN to connected drive and it will show the donor info there but all you services will work and will be available for purchase. As soon as you retrofit the ATM module it will all about the donor, not about your actual vehicle.

Major thanks. So Connected Drive will simply think that this is a vehicle with a different VIN.

What's a good source to obtain a donor ATM? This seems like a key component. I am making a list of all required parts starting with NBT Evo head unit.

Agree with what you said, I wanted to see what is needed to retrofit the nbt evo. Also maybe a stupid question but what happens if only the nbt evo is installed(obviously programmed to the vehicle), no atm, but WiFi antenna? If I do that, I know connected drive won't work, but will the radio work? Will I be able to use CarPlay?

So question, if i want RTTI and connected drive, etc....I need an ATM, does that mean one of the ID6 head units with the blue connector for the GPS will work?

I'm watching a few on ebay like this one or maybe this one with more accessories? Or do i need to still buy another item?

I also see BimmerTech has an 'add on' of $499 for 'SiriusXM/HD radio', is there a component needed for that which i can tell if any of these head units come with? I use SXM a lot and dont like the idea of another $500 for that. Basically at the point where im ready to pull the trigger for my spring upgrade and want to ensure the swap i do has everything (ATM, SXM, GPS, etc etc....)

So all the "coding to your VIN" part in these listing is basically removing chance of locking NBT unit due to anti-theft protection as well as activating CarPlay and full screen CarPlay. If you want RTTI or any other connected services you do need ATM module and these services will use the VIN of the donor car, not your VIN. Your satellite radio will still work, you have all the hardware in place, your radio ID will change though after you swap the unit. GPS connector was used with old 3G connection for emergency calls if I remember correctly, so if you are going to use ATM module you do not need blue connector.

Gotcha. Dont suppose anyone has a full parts list (with maybe part numbers/ebay links) to shop for doing a full swap?

Interesting you mention this, I have an Andream MMI for my X5 F15 2014 no touch screen and hate it.. I don’t want to opt for Android OS touchscreen as all I want is CarPlay and Android Auto.

For my E70 CCC Andream has a CarPlay / Android Auto touchscreen, I’ve ordered here - as this is a screen replacement with no need for MMI box.

https://www.android-car-dvd.com/coll...33378246754440

This is what I want just for F15 NBT, so I can at least use touch screen. Hopefully Andream will come out with an NBT version.

Say I didn’t care about nbt evo and I just wanted CD and RTTI. Could I just purchase and install 84-10-6-836-777?

What’s the difference between ATM and TCB 4G?

I don't think NBT4 will work with ATM unit, there are differences in the hardware (old units use GPS antenna, new units use A-GPS to position the vehicle).

What I’m wondering is if I can just keep my existing NBT and use a 4G TCB instead of doing the entire EVO+ATM retrofit.

NBT ID4 doesn't support touch screen. You need EVO HU to make APIX2 touchscreen working.
