2014 X5 Build Thread: ZDH 35i

Hey all! Just picked up a 2014 X5 35i to serve as a daily driver and occasional tow rig.

I actually purchased the X5 from a classified ad on here. I am the second titled owner. The car has a really interesting story, it began life as a BMW press car hence the interesting spec with M-Sport, ZDH Package, and Dakota Leather without the executive package and a lot of the technology.


Vehicle:

• 2014 X5 xDrive 35i
• M-Sport
• Carbon Black Metallic on Black Dakota Leather
• ZDH - Dynamic Handling Package
• BMW F15 M Performance Big Brake Kit
• BMW F15/F85 M Performance Interior Trim
• Invisihitch Class III hitch with coding
• 104,000 miles

The first order of business will be to ensure that all of the maintenance is up to date. Luckily, the first owner was meticulous and didn't leave me too much to do. Surprisingly the suspension remains in fabulous shape at 104k, no sign of worn control arms yet. The struts appear to be in-tact without any leaking or obvious crashing. I drove the car over 17 hours from St. Louis to Vermont without a single hiccup.

In the last 25,000 miles - Both the transmission and transfer case had the fluid changed, spark plugs, coil packs, valve cover gasket, oil filter gasket, and both batteries were replaced.

Upcoming maintenance items:

• Tensioner, pulley, and belt replacement (The tensioner is wobbling pretty badly)
• Replace the water pump and thermostat
• Differential service

Planned Modifications:

• Steering Wheel refinish with Colourlock - the stock wheel is badly faded
• New pedals
• Front & windshield tint
• Refinish the silver wheels to fix face corrosion and minor curb rash
• Evolution Racewerks Charge Pipe

I am certain this list will grow...

Nice options! Very interesting spec. I was looking for a dynamic handling pack car. Not an easy on to find!

It's almost like a stripper SUV

I'm not missing too much of the tech... comfort access and CarPlay would be nice to have. I might add both down the road

I love the ZDH package on mine great find! Highly recommend adding carplay, I just finally installed it myself a couple weeks back. Really modernizes the feel of it!

Thanks man! Did you do an iDrive 5/6 retrofit or another method like the MMIs that are out there?
