FAST for a big heavy truck!
Now I don't condone this on roads, but....
Returning from a weekend ski trip, with a trunk full of gear, a Porsche 996 Turbo S pulled up along side us. His license plate said TRY ME! With plenty of open road and the sound of his down shift to 3rd gear, I matted the throttle. To my, and his surprise I was right with him. We did this several times with similar results. We go one final run, and he got roughly a car on me max up top. We both pulled in to service station and he said his car was full bolt on, which the exhaust confirmed. I think he assumed my car was the X5M since I'm badge delete. I have the JB tuner on the car but not sure if it even does anything... This was also with 19s and winters which are much lighter than the stock 20s with runflats.

It's not a "truck".
On winter tires too. Either the other driver was afraid to push his car or that guy "up-badged" his plain jane Porsche (looking at the body you should be able to tell at first glance if that were the case). There are something like 1400 996 Turbo S and they received the full treatment including the X50 power kit along with PCCB and other bits... top speed of 190mph and 450hp/460tq with much less weight. Hard to imagine an X5 keeping up with that... It's like a linebacker trying to sprint along Usain Bolt.

You're right however you had passengers and cargo. Just hard to understand how the Porsche fell off so hard considering the HP:Weight ratio compared to the X5 and it's load with occupants and gear but either way kudos to you.

I'm still waiting to surprise a contender. Unfortunately the contender yesterday was a marked police car. Gave me a lecture and told me to get on my way. He didn't give me a ticket.

I had a similar experience with a 911 GTS passing cars amd right with him. It was the first week I had the car amd the sheer force pushing you into the seat was astounding. My son who was with me couldn't believe it either. Not saying he couldnt have taken me but it would have taken a bit. Acceleration we were right with him on each pass we made. I know the power to weight thing but I had a 02 996 Turbo 911 Porsche as well as two Cayenne turbos and my X5 at least seems more fierce than all of them during acceleration. Perhaps the 8 speed gear box has something to do with it. when to the floor the shifts seem to be pretty seamless. I have no issues at all with the performance of the 50i motor, the thing is a beast.

Correct. Ive found that going to redline the car dies up top. So a short shift helps keep it in the power curve. The S63tu pulled all the way to redline. That motor pulled like it was naturally aspirated!!

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/SUV Wikipedia is not the best place to source information, but if you can vouch the sources the government does classify it under small trucks. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_utility_vehicle I call it an suv. I guess a truck can be closed off rather than having an open bed. Think food truck. |

0-60 mph is amazing for something this big and heavy BUT, passing cars on the freeway/highway and going up the hill is nothing short of amazing...the N63tu in the F15 chassis doesn't even feel like it is straining yet 100 mph+ comes in no time and it does it so smoothly and effortlessly!! This SUV is a beast!
