M240i vs C43 - thoughts?
So I think my next car saga is coming to a close (at least for the next 6 months until I tire of the new car )
I have really tired of my cayman and need a change. I've tried a lot of cars in the last little while but haven't walked away really wanting one, aside from a f type r. I test drove a m240ixdrive yesterday with the zf 8 speed transmission and was very impressed. The engine is an absolute peach with butttery smooth instant power and torque. The transmission is direct and immediate in its shifts. The compact proportions of the car are perfect. I really liked the car (I didn't walk away smiling like I did with the ftype, but the f type has been ruled out for practicality considerations). I am close to placing an order, but the thought crossed my mind that I should perhaps at least compare it to the c43...which is a little pricier but in the same ballpark. would welcome any thoughts on comparisons of the c43 with the m240i Last edited by baege; 01-28-2018 at 07:28 AM.. |

Yes the F-type is not practical at all but I still bought it. I have other cars to use when practically is important. Cheers |

They are definitely a nice car, but it does surprise me a little compared to what you've been considering so far.

My cousin has a C43. It's a pretty quick awd car with a mean exhaust note. I found the ride a little stiff but it doesn't seem to bother him. Interior is way nicer than a 2 series.
If I was looking for something nimble and tossable I would get the M2. I know personally I would get bored of a 240i but the M2 not so quickly. |

and thats a compliment.. I prefer the M2 but the M240i is tight and close behind and I love that B58 engine in a smaller car so..testdrive the C43 and see for yourself in comparison |

I was planning to get a manual but the GF talked me out of it...the 8 speed is pretty good, but I know I will miss manual the turbo lag is very minimal, probably the least of any turbo I've driven and the engine's overall willing eager smooth and very powerful nature drew me in...it makes my cayman's flat six feel downright...flat xdrive is so I can drive it year round I've finally succumbed to the direction of automotive progress... |

If you are looking at a AWD sport coupes with automatic transmissions, and considering the C43, there is also:
440i S5 Q60 RC 350 (which has a naturally aspirated V8) The point being, it is arbitrary to limit yourself to just the C43 when there are a number of other direct competitors. |

43s will be discontinue within a year or so.
Going forward, Mercedes-AMG will be offering 53s and 63s
