No Sound

So about a week ago the sound went completely out...no radio, parking sensor, gong's etc. I brought it to a guy that does side work who works as a tech at a BMW dealership and whatever he scanned, he said it was the amp. So I got a used one from fleaBay and plugged it in yesterday and still no sound. I've checked the fuses and the one's I checked look good. The fuses I checked were the ones located in the rear passenger side compartment. Could it be that I got a bad amp? Does it need to be re-coded? Any other suggestions?

Replace the fuses with a new one. Should be fuse number 122 30amp and 159 5amp. try to swap it with another then check. it's possible the new amp is no good but I've seen fuses that look good but aren't working in my x5. it can also be fuse 505 nonreplaceable.

Thanks. Yeah I did check those and replaced them with another as well as using a test light to make sure they were getting power. I ordered another amp in the meantime. I have not checked fuse 505 though

Any other suggestions from forum members here?

Update... Got another amp and still no sound. Think the chances of 3 amps all being bad (original plus 2 used from eBay). Any other suggestions? I need help!!!!

Might be a long shot, but look for a small amount of standing water in the rear cavity below the fuse block on passenger side.

The sunroof is known for having drainage issues and likes to make puddles in that location where some electronics live.

Were you able to resolve this?

Here are my symptoms:

- No sound
- Head unit seems to be functioning as I am able to switch from radio and media with no issues. The only strange thing is that I cannot reset the head unit by pushing down on the power knob for 20-30 seconds. Nothing happens. Do you guys think it could be the head unit?
- Bluetooth connects to my phone and the image of the song does show on the display I believe the vehicle-integrated mic works but I have to use a Bluetooth speaker to hear anything

Here are the steps to resolve this so far for me:

1. Checked all fuses except for the ones behind the side of the front passenger footwell
2. Replaced the amplifier with the Bavsound amplifier but still no sound
3. Replaced the Bluetooth device but still no sound (w/ Bavsound and original)

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Bringing this to the top in case someone with knowledge is able to chime in. Since I believe the MOST route is Head Unit > HK Amplifier > Bluetooth Module > Head Unit. I see my phone connecting to Bluetooth, I have to believe it is the head unit but how can I be sure of this?

The last place I have not been able to check is Fuse 505 which I am having difficulty accessing. Does anyone have any recommendation on getting to it?

"No warning tones" was a key indicator on mine when the AMP failed. It got wet from blocked sunroof drains and fried the AMP. I plugged in a fiber bypass to confirm it was the amp. There could also be a blown fuse to control turning on the AMP. I don't recall if I needed ISTA to identify but I know it'll show what is not communicating with the other devices on the MOST bus.

BTW - If you have comprehensive insurance on the car and it's water damage, you can file a claim and have them cover the cost. If you go that route, you might want to upgrade to a Bavsound amp, it'll blow you away compared to the factory BMW Hi-Amp.

Can someone confirm that there is no coding needed for a similar amplifier out of an F15 X5? I had purchased the BAV Amplifier to replace what I am thinking is a bad Harmon Kardon amplifier, but when I installed it, there was still no sound. I am now looking to buy a replacement F15 X5 amplifier from a 2016.

Same issue here. Dealer said I need a new head unit.... $4,500 repair... screen works perfectly, just no sound at all. Did anyone resolve it with a new amp? Wife said she saw smoke come out of the center consul where the arm rest is.

Well the only thing under the arm rest and center console, is the crash and airbag modules.
Head unit is located behind the climate controls.
If need be, maybe buy a used one off ebay? But I'd do a bit more investigating first.

Check your amp out, it is behind the carpet panel on left side in trunk.

So it looks like BMW was able to determine where the issue was. They ran some diagnostics and it had a hard fault for my amplifier under voltage at 255 times. They found that the amplifier is communicating and powering up but it has two power inputs, 5 amp is fine but the 50 amp fuse is out which is from the BSD. They just replaced the BSD Battery Fuse Box and supposedly the audio is working again. I still need to pick up the car but I believe it is finally resolved. So I'll have a working replacement amplifier for sale if anyone needs one.

virtualbong What exactly is the "BSD Battery Fuse Box"? Is it the red panel that sits on top of the battery?

Thx!

Yep and confirmed that I have audio again! I can't believe I had no audio for 7 months...using a bluetooth speaker in a nice vehicle was embarassing.

Still NO Audio After Replacing Amplifier and BSD Fuse

I am in the same boat as most on this forum. No audio out of 2015 X5 but head unit shows everything is working fine. I found the 50a fuse on the BSD block over the battery in the trunk area was indeed bad. I replaced that and when i did the amplifier started smoking. Removed the amplifier that was certainly blown, and replaced with a replacement purchased on ebay. I now see the replacement has some red leds that light up, BSD fuse is still good, but still no audio. I thought I must have gotten a bad replacement amplifier since i ordered it on ebay and purchased a 2nd replacement amplifier and still get the same problem, no audio. Double checked the BSD fuse and its still good. Checked all of the fuses in the trunk fuse box and they are all good. None of the fuses under the passenger side dash appear to be relevant so I didn't check them. There are some additional fuses listed for the 200 and 300 number fuses that appear to be relevant but I can not find the fuse box for. I will post a picture of the fuses boxes I can't find. Any help before i take this into a service shop for professional help?
