20" OEM wheels on X5 problems?
So I am configuring an X5 xDrive 35i M Sport. It gives me the option to go to the 20" wheels for $995. (20" M Light alloy Double Spoke wheels style 469M-with performance run-flat tires)
But I saw a review stating that the 20" wheels were not good. Said they tended to get caught up in the grooves of the road or something like that. Should I stay with 19" or go 20"? What has your experience been? |

No issues with my 20" wheels. I think the issue with the traming on grooves has a lot to do with the type of tires too. I would be more concerned about road debris being kicked up and pitting the rear quarter panel fenders.

I stayed with 19" for my X6 because the 19s are all-season tires while the 20s are summer. I have to drive in the snow in the winter.
Also, if I did want larger wheels I think I'd rather go much bigger through aftermarket options. i'm not sure about the X5, but the X6 can go up to 23", 24". I think the Hamann mods are all with 23" tires. |

I'd go with the 20" wheels as they fill out the wheel well and look great, especially the M sport 20" wheels which I think are the best looking 20" wheels available for the X5, but they come with summer tires. Ohio winters can be very snowy from what I remember so you'll need a dedicated set of winter wheels.
You should not have any issues with either option.

What are the run flat sizes for the OEM 2015 X5 front and rear (20" rims)?
Are they different for the front and back? Who makes a run flat all weather? If I decide to not go with run flat, what other options do I have? If I am ordering a new car, can the dealer order all weather tires and give me a credit for the summer tires? I hate the idea of having to change out tires for summer and winter. I really dont see me having 2 full sets of tires and rims. |

I am doing fine with 20" OEM wheels with my F15 and previously with my E70.

If you are referring to the review that I posted a little earlier, I believe the author of the magazine article damaged/scraped the 469M 20" wheels on the kerb/border of the road. I think that the 469M 20" alloys stick out a little more than the 467M 19" and some forum members have installed gatorstrips to protect them. In fact when I was choosing my spec, the dealer also warned me to be careful when parking with 469M 20" alloys to avoid scraping them. So in the end I opted for the 467M 19" because I also wanted all season run-flat tyres which you cannot get in 20". Fortunately in Europe we get the staggered M Sport 19" wheel set up with 255 width on the front and 285 width in the rear that looks a bit more aggressive. But I agree with the others that the 469M 20" alloys do look good!

I have the 20" staggered setup, they look great, no issues. I really think 19's look too small on the F15's. also, I feel like 19's would ride smoother, my 20's although pretty comfortable, it tends to give sort of a bouncy ride over bumps.

What are the run flat sizes for the OEM 2015 X5 front and rear (20" rims)?
275/40/20 fronts 315/35/20 rears Are they different for the front and back? Yes, staggered Who makes a run flat all weather? Conti DWS is the most popular all season tires for these but they are not RFT. If I decide to not go with run flat, what other options do I have? If I am ordering a new car, can the dealer order all weather tires and give me a credit for the summer tires? Probably not, but you can try and ask I hate the idea of having to change out tires for summer and winter. I really dont see me having 2 full sets of tires and rims. |

20" complete the X5. Without it, arch flare is too wide for 19" on Msports and stance looks very weak.

I would (actually did) go for 20" for summer and 19" for winter.
And think that for new car with high performance should be dedicated: summer and winter tyres(not all seasons). |

I have never done this so I'll ask... what if you just switch the tires on the 20" wheels each season? Or is that an expensive route to mount and dismount all twice a year? Or is it hard on the rims or hard on the tires? That would mean you would use non run flats during the winter.

I would think it is hard on the wheels and likely have more damage scrapes unless you find someone who is very careful changing them. For me.. I just keep the summer tires on until they wear and get the Conti DWS... I normally don't drive in the snow because no matter how great of a driver you are and no matter how good your Cars AWD/tires are there are always idiots out there who will eventually hit you. I avoid driving in the snow.

I leased mine and drove on the Dunlops until late fall then swapped them out for the Continental DWS. I'll reinstall the Dunlops before I turn it in therefore I only spent about 900 on tires due to the Treadwear of the DWS.

That one inch may sound small, but its gigantic when you're already used to the 19s. It probably isn't so much of an issue if you start with 20s. Once you have a good idea where your wheels start, the curbing stops (Thank goodness! After 7y with 18s, then 4y with 19s, it took me probably two months to keep my stupid wheels away from obstacles. The fronts were my nemeses.) |
