Rear brake service reset

Hi folks - I know this has been covered in a few different ways but wanted to share a simple nuance for resetting the rear brake service counter. Obviously you need to replace the brake components and the wear sensor (right rear). I could not get the service indicator to reset (process is: hold the trip odometer button down (with ignition on but not engine started) for a few seconds until the menu shows up in the dashboard console - for me the most urgent service was first (rear brakes), if not, keep pressing the button to cycle through the reset possibilities until you find the rear brake reset. Mine stated ‘Reset Possible’ as I’d installed a new sensor, long hold again and you get the ‘Reset?’ Message, another long hold to start the reset).

Anyway, mine got the ‘reset unsuccessful’ message and the mileage remained the same. I tried a few times, no luck. It was the electronic parking brake - it must be OFF! Successful reset on the next attempt. I searched for a while before I found it mentioned as a possible solution - definitely worked for my 2015 35d M Sport. Thought I’d share to hopefully save someone the agro. Cheers.

Lesson learned. No e-brake during rear brake reset. Good post.

From memory, you also need to have your foot off the brake pedal. So, all brakes off. Make sure it's in Park (can't roll away).
