Here's my new-to-me CPO '14 50i MSport. So far, I'm in love, except that I can't get the damn 20 way seat just right. The thing is a BEAST. Black or CF mirror caps are my next mission and eventually 21 or 22" wheels.

Looking good!

If you think it's a beast now, slap on a Race Chip Ultimate.

Thanks! That's on the to-do list too. At the risk of derailing this thread, I was actually considering the BMS/Burger Stage 1 tune due to the ease of install/removal. Any thoughts on the comparison between that and RaceChip?

r33_RGSport will be by shortly to tell you about the difference.

While Burger is easier to install/remove, more people are having better luck on the 50i with RC these days.

Also offtopic, but I can recommend BPC benchflash - as no piggyback will give you power and drivability (smooth delivery) as benchflash can. Tho for easiness of removal/install maybe piggybacks are better

I can spin my tires during launch - try doing that with a piggyback

True, there is no comparison between a flash tune and a piggy back. A flash tune is definitely the way to go, but it is pricey and not easily removed for warranty issues.

Both RaceChips and Burger are piggybacks, right? Because they plug in rather than reflash the ECU?

Thank you for the call.

Ideally, I won't even do benchflash.
Why risk everything with just a benchflash.

The proper way to do it is a dyno tune.
Unfortunately, since not a lot of people are willing to pay for this type of services. A lot of businesses doesn't offer this anymore.

Also, in a nutshell, flash tune will remove all of the security that will protect your engine from any mishap.
While piggyback still rely on the stock ECU security protection.

Here is a simple comparison:

RaceChip Ultimate have better quality product starting from harness, packaging, enclosure, and internals.
Performance wise, both are about the same.
Installation, the BMS is very easy, but the RaceChip includes a dummy plug where you can use it to bypass the module. So, once you have it installed, it is as easy as removing the module and use the dummy plug to bypass.

While I agree with you in general in terms of piggyback is really easier to install and remove, I politely disagree with your part about benchflash. It is highly adjustable and for example for me BPC did a custom setup where I have ALL stock ECU protections in Comfort and ECO modes, while in Sport and Sport+ I have a beast mode basically. In addition as I already mentioned in my thread about BPC benchflash http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1407639 - they left both rpm limit and max top speed limits intact. Also, they do provide dyno tuning with flash - my install took 5 hours including lots of testing and driving in between and of course it was more expensive than just piggyback kit. I don't want to go into too much details to derail this thread, but just wanted to provide other side of story.

I agree tho, that for a customer looking for an easy plug-n-play solution AND easier way to comply with dealer warranty by simply removing piggybacks - they are worth considering definitely. I think from 10 owners (from the ones that will even consider doing a tune) maybe only 1 will go to the extent of flashbench and 9 will do a piggyback - so everyone can get what they want and what suits them best at this time (for me it's reassurance that I can smoke almost any 50i (piggyback or not) and a lot of other cars, heck probably 99% of cars on the road)

Cheers

Yes, that one is beautiful. In fact it's so good, I'm suspecting good photoshoping skills. However, in any case that color suits x5 very well

Damn. BMW should use that as a promo shot on a billboard and it would sell X5s all day.

I thought the photoshopping too. But if he photo shopped it . . . why not correct that dark grey blob on the front right bumper and the other white mark front right side above the white reflected stripe off the ground?

I also like this guys ride too from the "do you clay bar" thread post # 49 but its not in this random X5 shots thread, so it does not count for voting:

Look good! Did you buy them and install the yourself? Were you able to put them on with the tires already mounted to the wheel?

Yes installed myself, with tires on and wheels still on the car. Lots of hammering, though...

Nice, where'd you buy them? Looked at their website for a distributor but nothing came up. Thanks
