Brake Job Tools...Pads and Rotors
Hi All....Can someone post the tools that I would need to perform a Brake Job on a 2015 X5 w/electronic PB. Type of Caliper Piston Spreader, Hex Bit's, etc.
I'm also thinking of ordering from FCP Euro a BMW Brake Kit - Zimmermann/Akebono, has anyone ordered from this company? I've done a few Brake Jobs but never on a BMW? Have 9mm in the front and 6mm in the rear, so I'll be doing rears soon. Watched a couple of YouTube Videos but nothing step by step and F15 specific. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated. Y'all have a great Labor Day! Thanks, Sarge |

I did a Breakjob very recently. It's very straightforward, remove the two Etorx behind the rotors and the whole thing including the caliper comes off. Change the Rotors and the pads, careful with the Brake sensors, use grease for the parts that need it done, no need for service mode or anything.
FCP Euro is a very reputable website and used by a lot of users here including myself you can't go wrong with them |

5 seconds of google https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1527339 Also electric F15 e brake has no effect on a pad/rotor change. It's a hub system. Not caliper.

I used this guide (older series x5 but worked out great): https://xoutpost.com/articles/x5/bra...e-job-diy.html
If you need torques (rears) https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...kes/1VnXhl7fdx Official BMW guide for pads: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...kes/1VnXYhSLRO Official BMW guide for rotors: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...kes/1VnXcDpk7c In terms of special tools the only one I didn’t have and REALLY wished I’d had was the etorx socket (i nearly stripped this bolt using an ill-fitting socket): Lisle 26860 E-18 Torx Socket https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P0XLYW..._UfKvFbKH2SGNW Only other advice I can give is if you order the OEM pads make sure you lightly bevel the edges (as described in the bmw docs above). Good luck! |

About to tackle the rears, thanks for good info in this thread. I ordered the FCP kit, can't beat the price and convenience.
No need to replace the sensor if it hasn't tripped an error, correct? Unless of course I break it.

Replace the sensor... or... if you change your wheels and or keep an eye on your pads, just put it in a plastic bag and zip tie it up out of the way. If you rely on the service indicator for that, then I'd replace the sensor. I swap winters to summers every 6 months and keep an eye on my brake pad levels so when I do my rear pad/rotor swap ill change out my tripped sensor. The sensor wears down with the pad, once tripped and the circuit is completed you'll need to swap it or you won't get rid of the dash lights and iDrive warning on startup. |
