This is really fucked up.
I know this for a fact that the OEM headlight assembly is $2,000 alone for non LED. Bumper cover probably around that price as well so the estimate is not off including labor.

Now, body shops are not going around buying used eBay parts, even with that route it will be more than $10K all said and done.

Glad you are ok. Probably frame damage judging on how far the damage went in. I understand your frustration, but hey look now you can get a newer/better one.

Glad you are safe.

How much one gets if it's totalled? I'm asking because I have an insurance where they give me the money I paid in originally for the used X5 with a 5% additional per year.
Sounds too good to be true.

M-sport bumper cover $927 brand new from dealership https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...118062002.html

Xenon Headlight brand new from dealership $1360: https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...117317109.html

Hood $985 brand new from dealership: https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...007381758.html

Fender $477 https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...657373541.html

Total $3700 for brand new parts + paint (about $300-400 a piece). It comes to $5k all in + labor.

i got hit in my old x5. i was almost to a stop, but a drunk still slid into me. my airbags did not deploy. bodyshop initially estimated at 14k, but ended up around 25k. took them 2 months also.

my bodyshop gave a low figure initially so they'd get the work, otherwise insurance would just send the vehicle to auction. and i had gone to the only bmw certified shop in the state. i got screwed. poor quality work also.

be glad your insurance is totaling it, so you can move on to the next one.

So basically - any hit, doesn't matter how light or heavy, how small or big - chances are it will be totaled since it's BMW and it's a x5 where every scratch is $10k

Congrats to all of us. We are basically driving on borrowed time - someone hit you on parking lot and run - bye bye x5 - it's totaled. You slid at 5mph and cracked the bumper? Totaled.

Considering this sad state of affairs - I'm just concerned about if it's even worth to invest into your car, mod it in any way if you won't be able to fix it no matter what kind of accident. G05 came out and prices are dropping for f15. Parts are still same price like brand new. So yeah, we are all driving till 1 slight hit.

Good for those who drive stock. Very bad for us who are heavily modded. It's not just money - I spent countless hours modding - and of course no insurance company will compensate for it. Best scenario a market value - which is lower than I owe for credit even lol.
Ok, sorry guys for the rant. I'm done.

...Plus the metal, aluminum, plastic pieces that needs to be bent back or replaced. These little parts are premium and priced high. That little fender flare unpainted alone is $250 for a little plastic piece.

Imagine all the pieces and brackets behind the cosmetics, I'd tack at least $5K or more in addition.

I remember in the body shop some of these metal and aluminum are tack-welded. Replacing them it needed to be drilled out, replaced with the new part, tack welded and painted. That process alone can cost thousands. This X5 is no different.

Man,

We are with you on the insurance coverage, bmw pricing model (terrible, awful and scandalous - cash cowing on legacy owners), body shop ethic, and so on.

That being said any high end car will have the same market issue (from consumer prospective). Same with Land Rover (and I almost bough one at super great price), Benz, Volvo, etc...

We will also agree Your health is worth way more than a piece of car.

How much is your insurance offering you to get another car ? This is where I would focus the effort to get best deal out of the situation.

Thank you

Who was your insurance through and was there any structural or frame damage? Yours looks about the same as mine.
When you open up the hood the arm that goes to the trans or engine was bent. I forgot what they called it but it was bent out towards the wheel. Geico took car of everything.
