Not in the foreseeable future as my primary car.
The diesel takes $3.60 per gal fuel (here in GA), gets 28.5mpg around my town, over 34 mpg hwy, has tons of torque for navigating traffic and cruises at any speed silently and effortlessly.

No way. I drove all 3 engines, the diesel, for my use, was better than the gas 3.5 in all areas. It feels faster if you don't beat the heck out of gas engine, better miles between refills (important to the wife) and just feels "right" for the car (hard to describe and very subjective). The big gas engine is a blast, but, I have my car for 0-60 runs, it's more fun in the Jag anyway. And the fuel economy on the big gas engine ruled it out pretty quickly; I could care less about the cost of the fuel, but the need to stop every few hundred miles was a non-starter for my wife.
The diesel feels effortless in the X5, it really does. It's a great choice for this car; the only way I'd say the small gas engine is better is if you spend a lot of time >3500-4000 RPMs where it makes a lot of HP. If you drive your car "easy" like I do, the diesel has more "pop" (torque) and it's really noticeable. |

I would go to diesel once I have my race car and a trailer.
But for now, I am enjoying my inline 6 turbo kicking while still having moderate mpg. Of course have to have the tune and other gimmicks to have more horses.

I have driven other foreign diesel vehicles and also X5 Diesel. After I have completed my test drive, the sales person told me its diesel. Until then, I have no clue that I was on diesel vehicle and the sound is same as gas. I Would definitely go with Diesel next time.

Diesel, of course. I have been quite impressed with the torque that is really suitable for such a heavy car. I can't think of anything negative to say about the Diesel. And it's not because I own one since there are plenty of options I didn't order that I regret (comfort access, LED). I can't imagine why would anyone not opt for the diesel.

Diesel.
550-650+ miles per tank. 32 mpg highway/26 around town on a green engine torque...oh the torque never have to change a spark plug again You don't know it's a diesel If you're ever going to pull, you'll regret not having the diesel There's no way I'd go back to the 35 |
