Yes! So true. Copying other car companies or movies... Not the way to go. Making a better car that is better to drive, more fun to drive, and faster while saving gas is the way to go. All the other stuff is BS.

I love the horizontal lights that go around the cabin but I hate the foot lights. I wonder if you can turn off the foot lights without having to pull out the LED's?

Think of the bright side. Maybe it will lead to fewer "forumites" who pontificate about how BMW started going downhill right after they made their particular car...even if it's 2 years old.

Do these stay on as you're driving or are they only on when a door is open?

If this is for when you're actually driving your car, I agree with the sentiments here that only red or "BMW amber" should be used.

There is actually scientific reasoning for why red is used in some low-light situations (including similar systems in Audis). The photoreceptors in your eyes that are relied on heavily for low-light vision are very insensitive to red, so red light disturbs your low-light vision less. I always preferred Audi's deep red to the orangish "amber" used in BMWs for this reason. However, the amber color is part of the BMW brand now and even if its not as effective as red, at least it doesn't look as comically sinister as dark red lighting.

Mine has the red in a dim setting and I love it, not too bright, very classy. This may be taking it too far with the blue and the brighter setting. However Audi does this too as is Mercedes

BMW should also add these on exterior - underneath the car's body. And also make the glowing Roundel emblem (like Mercedes will be doing). And make all of them glow brighter when the engine RPM's increase, similar to fake pre-recorded "engine sound" in F10 M5. And top it off with a new corporate slogan about "ultimate poseur machine"

My wife's 2011 Ford Edge comes with the exact same thing, for FREE, minus the tacky light strips on the door panels and dash

Well then it's not the same, is it? There's nothing tacky about the way they've done the light strips.

What's the deal in this thread? Is everyone over 65 or something?

On the F30, I kinda liked how you can change the color of ambient lighting from Orange to White thru iDrive.
Other that that, this is plain stupid. For Almost $100k and we get A Christmas tree in the car. Recalls, failed turbos/water pump/fuel pump(and the list goes on and on)is not a concern as long as you can put on a light show inside the car. WTF????

BMW needs to stop overcharging us for stupid lights and start focusing more on quality cars. Seems like over the past 5-6 years, BMW reliability just took a huge dump.

I don't get it either, so much hate for an OPTION on a BMW forum. I had ambient light in my E92, loved that option (not a lot of cars had it then).

Is BMW in direct competition with Kia or Ford or threatened by them that they need to bling it up with Christmas tree lighting?

Not that I hate it, I just hate the fact that we are paying a premium price for a car with "cool LED lighting" but shit load of problems.

I like it, no harm in having the option, traditionalists can have the amber and the blue and white look great. I wonder if it pops to red if you go into Sport mode

+1.. apparently most people here that like this idea must have not known that the avg. cars.. eg. mustang and escape have a had this tacky feature for the past 6 or 7 years now... It really cheapens the premium feel.

Does the ambient lighting stay on while you're driving?
