Anyway to auto fold mirror when parking?

Wondering if there is a setting to have the mirrors fold when I put it in park like the Benzs do.

mmmmm I asked my dealer the same question WRT my E70. He checked with the Service Dept. and they said there is no 'auto' way of doing this. The reason they gave was it wears the motors out on the mirrors....hard to believe but that's what I was told

At least with E70, you could re-program by someone (not the dealer); however, the programming would be lost if the dealer made an update. If I know I'm going to be in a parking lot, I fold the mirrors - having wife remember is a lost cause.

When I press and hold the lock button (or keep on ridges for comfort access) the mirrors fold in automatically.

Press and hold the door 'lock' button on the keyfob; in the UK this folds the mirrors and closes any open windows / glass roof. Similarly if you press and hold the 'un-lock' button on the keyfob it opens windows / glass roof. I think I'm correct in saying that you need to have option 430 "Folding/Auto Dimming Ext Mirrors" for folding / unfolding of the door mirrors part of this feature to work.

auto fold in not mentioned in o/manual.

I do not fold my mirrors in parking lots, maybe I should to protect them. I believe there are 4 ways to fold in: 1) button inside car 2) key FOB (with option) 3) 322 Comfort Access (touch and hold door handle ridges 4) manually.

I do think that the motors will wear faster (can't quantify) with more movement, unless manually closed. Also, I should default the passenger mirror to not tilt down whilst in reverse unless parallel parking. I priced F25 aspherical side mirrors assembly, wow $560. Not standard in NA.

That's an easy one: not possible in the US as an standard option. However, you could easily have it coded for $50 and the mirrors can fold every time you lock the car.
I will have my coded once it arrives but I am always wondering if the motors break (for regular wear or whatever other reason), would the dealer refuse to fix the motor because I have coded it to fold every time I lock the car? That's a risk...

You never know... but it's enabled in other parts of the world with no issue. I don't see why it would be an issue here. It's no different than you pressing the button all the time.

But dealers... they're fun!

There is a member here at the forum that does. I hope he doesn't mind me posting his name:

The only other things that are not in the video that were done are DVD/video while driving, deleted disclaimer screen, and M splash screen. I gave him $50 for his time and troubles. He's working on few other codes. Maybe he'll have that sorted by the time we meet. Speaking of meet...

r33 is kind enough to let us meet up at his work place (warehouse with lots of parking) on 4/19 (saturday) in Baldwin Park. I think having almost a month out will give everyone who wants to attend enough time to schedule for the meet. I think 11AM is good meeting time. Once everyone's there, maybe everyone can chip in for lunch. Also, r33 said he'll code anyone else's X5 at the meet for $50/session.

If the turnout is good and we want to continue with the meet, I think it's only fair we rotate locations to LA/OC/IE to accommodate everyone, so that driving time/distance is fair for all.

So to summarize the first meet time and location: 4/19 (Sat) 11AM at Baldwin Park

If you are interested in attending, PM me for the address.

Z.

Scnick, let me know when you want to come by for coding.
I am located at Baldwin Park, CA.
Z is arranging the meet at my location by 04/19.
You can come before then or just meet up then.

Socal,

You might as well enable it and see if it fail within the 4 years 50k miles coverage,
But yea, agree to wd, it is enabled by default at the rest of the world.

If r33 is busy, let me know and I can remote code for you via Team Viewer. It's very easy if you have all the software, etc.

There's actually a list of coders in Coding section of the Bimmerfest forums. It's listed as one of the stickies.
