Hi guys,

Very thrilled today as I took delivery of my M50d! Firstly thanks to everyone for helping with the spec advice

I'm going to blog my experience up to a 1000 miles, post many pictures, videos. I've got fitted many of the options so hopefully prospective buyers may find it useful.

I've done 45 miles, the car is breathtaking, powerful and very refined. It's belies its true size and weight and is a pleasure to drive. In city driving its sharp around corners, very comfortable over rubbish roads, and on the motorway the beast is a real cruiser. However, this beast has a split personality, it's a laid back cruiser or a aggressive animal, make your choice ;-)

More to follow, excuse the lack of pictures! More to follow very soon!

Time to test out those LED headlights in the dark :-)

Adaptive LED Headlights

Very focused, delineated beam, pure white (like around 6500k), lateral illumination and general field coverage is incredible. The lighting of road signs and the beam splitting in adaptive mode is almost unbelievable - just seen that happen once so far.

Cornering lights great, although seem to be kicking in a bit late? Or am I driving too fast ?

The full beam could light up Wembley Stadium.

SDRX Harveyten Rybrook. Is that Birmingham way? Recommended?

Those wheels? You swapping for Winter Set or risking a mild March/April?

Rybrook have 3 BMW dealers:
Warwick
Shrewsbury
Worcester

My car was from the Worcester dealer and the sales team there are brilliant. I've known some of them over 10years and referred many friends& family to them.

No plans for tyre changes though we just had a quick snow flurry here.

Ps when you switch off your car does it make whirring motor noises? I almost felt like I'd left something on? It makes various noises and then after a good 30 secs all silent!

SDRX Might try Worcester for my next purchase; Cotswold didn't want my business after buying 4 cars from them and Lovetts pretty un-impressive service.
Maybe I expect too much when spending ~£60k of my hard-earned after tax income

Anyway, back to your question; Nope no whirring noise post switch off. Mind you you have a BEAST and it might take time to get back into its cage! My 3D is more sedate in comparison.

Congratulations SDRX. Looking forward to following your 1000 mile 'blog'. I am interested in hearing more about your experience with the LED lighting package. I took it out from my current build since I am not sure what advantages it has over the stock Xenon lights after coding for USA buyers. Enjoy your new ride.

Congratulations. Watch your licence in the UK, I see that Robbie Savage got 6 points for being around 100mph on the A1. It is quite funny living near and driving in Germany as my M50d was cruising at around 120 mph the other day and once run-in I'll be way over that when the road is clear and conditions permit. In my old X5 you could be at around 130-140 mph on the German autobhan then down to 80 mph once you went in The Netherlands - it is like deploying a parachute and feels so slow! I've still no idea what the acceleration is like for the M50d as I drive completely legal in The Netherlands due to the limits and general driving styles that everyone adopts.

Quick update on comfort seats

In the UK this is one of the cheaper options and I would definitely recommend it:

1. Different grades of foam/padding have been used so that you have firm support exactly where needed ie your back! And then other areas are softly cosseted.
2. The lateral side supports can be drawn inwards to prevent you from moving side to side
3, Lumbar support adjustment is great but will take a few days to set right. Air Pads and moving parts within the seat alter the extent of back support and the hardness of the seat
4. Full memory function in sync with steering
5. Electric headrest adjustment
6. Even the seat angle of the base is adjustment to extent where you feel that you drop back in to the seat.

In short, very comfortable seats but expect to spend at least a week adjusting them just right.... :-)

The Adaptive LED headlights are definitely better than te F10 adaptive xenons that I had.

1. They are brighter, I can tell this from the level of road sign illumination
2. They are comfortably lighting up about 400-500m in front of me
3. The light is absolutely pure white
4. The spread of the beam is much wider, especially road side and it's very sharply focussed
5. The cornering lighting system is much more powerful

Rybrook Worcester are absolutely fantastic, I have been using them for years. I would definitely recommend them. They knock the socks of all the Sytner dealers in the Midlands, who I personally find arrogant.

Looking good. I would have loved an M50D but couldn't justify the company car tax it would cost me.

My 40D is a beast so the M50D must be awesome off the line as there is so much more torque.

Definitely with you on the comfort seats, I got them in mine after quite a lot of deliberation and am so glad that I did, they are so comfortable and adjustable. It takes a while to get it right but when you do, you know.

The 6WB dash looks great too, gutted that it wasn't an option on mine when I ordered it. Even checking with BMW now it is not available as an official option, it's only available on F15's that could have had it as a factory fit option which seems a bit daft, but hey that's BMW logic for you.

I can't justify £1,000 for a 6WB from Poland or wherever as mine is only leased, maybe next time . . .

Enjoy it. I would be interested in the fuel economy you get.

Yes the car is very quick off the mark and then at any speed you can just command instant power surges. Its very remarkable.

The mpg figure really hasn't settled yet, i was getting about 26mpg today but I have been driving "actively" and i suppose the car needs to do a few hundred miles before we can tell? When I had a M50d on trial a few months ago over 4 days of mixed driving I did hit 32mpg - I thought that was reasonable? What do you normally average in the 40d?

£1000 for 6WB? that would be mad mate. I suspect there will be new options for the 65 plate in sept and so we share our fury together :-)

I get low to mid 30's mpg on my 40D, but I do tend to have a lead right foot. What's the point of having all that torque and power if you aren't going to use it getting 2.2 tonnes of F15 moving from a stop .

I've had it for 7 months now but still gun it from the lights with a big grin on my face. You get some racer thinking they can beat you away, I drop it into Sport and let rip.
