Foliatec Exhaust Paint - Quick Review

Having changed to the M Performance Kidney Grills and got the Shadowline Trim I was keen to get rid of the last chrome item on the car - the exhaust. I decided to try out the Foliatec Exhaust Paint 2K which retails for 30 EUR. From start to finish it took abour 45 minutes and did what it said on the tin/can! The instructions are easy to follow and I applied four coats waiting 5 minutes between coats. I then left the car for 48 hours in the garage. The hardening time is apparently 7 days. I am very happy with the result. The sequence of photos is (1) can, (2) before, (3) preparation, (4) after first coat, (5) after 4th coat and (6) close up. Apologies for the poor photos and the fact that the car is in bad need of a good wash...

I think the M Sport models should have come with black tips from the factory, being that everything is shadow lined anyways.

I agree. BMW should remove the stark chrome on the tips and kidney surrounds. If not black them out, atleast have them be non chromed/matt silver/satin la from factory..

Sorry for the slow reply. Yes, it looks just like day one - no sign of flaking whatsoever. Would recommend it....

Also, to add...I re-did the inside of the tips with matte black header paint from VHT to complete the job...I'm really happy with the results. 1,000 kms on them so far, no issues.

Looks good! You didn't prefer to take the exhaust tip off the car before painting it?

They're not easily removable since the exhaust is a single piece. I actually removed my rear bumper to paint mine, a little more work...but worth it to get proper coats and not worrying about over spray. Next project is to paint the muffler and piping to the tips black as well, I ran out of time when doing the tips.

Ahh, fair enough. I haven't spent the time to look at that. Since that is the case, I would opt to do the same thing you did and take the rear bumper off.

I want to do this but I'm thinking about doing Matte black instead of gloss black for my Space Grey. Do you guys know if Matte finish would be an issue?
