yewlock - would you please expand a bit on the MPBK - do you have it installed? What has your experience with it been vis a vis braking performance? Cost?
I am still in break-in mileage and no squeal. If it does become an issue and the MPBK is the solution, I will go that way quickly as opposed to mucking around with short lived quasi-fixes and multiple trips to the dealer. BTW - what does PuMA stand for? |

Disappointing for over $100K car. My M6 GC did not squeal nearly as much as my X5M. Do we need to have a class action suit vs BMW to have them address this properly???

Found this online:
PuMA is a worldwide BMW database of all reported problems and most with their appropriate fixes. I think the acronym means Problem and Measures Management Aftersales or in German: Problem und Mebnahmenmanagement Aftersales.

Understood - but do you have the MPBK installed already? What I am trying to sort out is if there is a totally different BMW front brake package that we can try if the squeal develops.
Those of us with new X5M purchases have just paid out over $100,000 for this high performing vehicle and don't want to diminish our enjoyment over a squeal issue. I won't be happy if I have to pay for a non warranty squeal fix via the MPBK but I am not going to get myself sidetracked if that becomes an issue. On a side note I am well underway with specs and test drives on our next vehicle addition. Life is short - need to enjoy the views, smell the roses, drive the roads |

I just looked up the BMW MPBK on the BMW site and it is a two piece rotor, not a one piece. It has an aluminum hat riveted on.
Am I looking at the wrong part or missing something? |

^^ Well that does not sound like the OEM X5M brake system. For starters, the OEM discs are just cross-drilled, there are no grooves.
The hats are on radial pins, not rivets as described in the clip. Also, to my eye the OEM rear calipers look like sliding units, not fixed units - please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. |

You referenced the MPBK as not squealing as it has a solid disk. When I looked up the MPBK on the BMW website is describes it as a two piece rotor.
The MPBK is not the OEM brake system. It is a BMW upgrade to the stock BMW X5 M brake as I understand it. I am wondering if you have not distinguished between the stock BMW X5M rotors and the BMW MPBK rotors? Where are you finding the MPBK with a solid disk? The rear rotor and caliper is the same on the E70 M, X5 50i, and the F85. Whatever the PDF is above is not for the X5M. Those rotors are entirely tooooooo small! Lol Now instead of the MPBK rotor (which would fit the F85) you can upgrade to the M5 rotor. F85 and M5 (F10 I believe) share the same caliper but have different mounting points. Adapters can be made and are solid on eBay from Solid aluminum. Plus the M5 rotors are effing cheaper. But idk if they complain of any squealing or not.

Look at those rotor sizes. This has got to be for a car or X1/2/3 or something. F85 rotors are 390/34 and 385/24.

If you look at the heading it is for a 2018 X5 M - that was a screen grab straight from the BMW site. I did not even notice the rotor size as I was focused on the rotor construction. That may be a site error but it reads as it reads. Skyracer referenced a BMW MPBK with a solid disk - that is what I was trying to sort. Based on your input there is no BMW MPBK for our F85 and the brake squeal solution vis a vis "newly designed" parts really does not exist? Good news is my X5 M is so new that a squeal has not reared its head and this may all be academic for late build owners. Bad news is maybe not. Last edited by Apple Corps; 09-07-2018 at 10:01 AM.. |

Don't hold your breath...my 6/21/18 production '18 X5M squeals with 850 miles on it! Perhaps it's climate-related? I see you're in CA, low humidity??, but out here in the Northeast it's been brutal!

Kief - I suspect I will be dealing with it at some point - that is why I have spent some time researching it in advance. If it develops I'd pay for an after market solution out of my own pocket before I would do the multiple trips to the dealer with wasted time and effort.
You are correct - Central Valley of CA is quite dry and hot. Our rain season will be arriving shortly and I won't be shocked if it develops. Rather surprised that a clear cut solution to the issue has not surfaced. |

Personally I think simply having a slot option would help with the squeal quite a bit. There is also a seller on eBay who is taking the blanks from the MPBK, cutting in slots And selling at a mark up.

Ouch - RB takes "isn't cheap" to a whole new level
$6,000 - $7,000 would take some serious thought as a solution. Two questions - have you experienced the really bad squeal issue and, if so, did you install the RB system and find it to really solve the squeal issue? Thanks... |

That being said, I doubt that the cross drilling helps matters. Not all BMWs with fixed calipers are noisy: my wife's m240xi has them front and rear (no drilling or slotting on the discs) and it is nice and quiet. |

The more I try to dig into this the more having a spray bottle of P21S and the garden hose handy once a week is the "solution" - but I hope something better is available.
