Coding - first timer...
Hey guys. So I've just gotten an x5 and am irritated by a few things I'd like to code. I've never coded before as I've felt I could live with the default behaviours. Could the gurus who know confirm:
A) what can and can't be done (ideally - have you done it?) and B) point me in the direction of the simplest way to start coding these? (FYI I have a background in technology and have coded java etc in the past so hopefully this should be within my remit) The things: 1) code Auto H to be on when starting up (or better still remember the last set position for that profile) 2) code ASS to be off by default when starting up. 3) code auto wipers to be on at startup. 4) code the timeout on the active cruise control to 30 seconds rather than 3 seconds when I press resume at standstill. 5) code active cruise control to update the speed when speed limit detection has detected a new limit. (Like the later models I'd want this to wait for confirmation from me before setting the new speed on cruise control). I think that's it for now. (Its day 2 of having the car so I'm sure I'll find more!)

Shoulda posted this in the existing thread above but...
1) Nope 2) Not sure what "ASS" is 3) Never heard of anyone finding this to be an option. Biggest issue is finding someone who speaks German to read all the expert mode and then translate. I'd spend a weekend reading through every line if I had translation lol. 4) not sure what you're trying to code here 5) Not possible.

Seems like he read the coding thread fully but still can't find his answer.
Well, pretty much if it is not in that thread or Google didn't give you your answer, then it is not possible.

I'm stumped. Like auto wipers defaulting to on I would have thought was simple. Also auto-H being on by default. I figured he cruise control matching the speed limit display would be harder but maybe not impossible. But 'impossible' as an answer I'm v surprised about...

Ah yes. That's an easy code. And the auto cruise control to the posted speed limit would be awful. Who drives the exact speed limit all the time?! Plus the system isn't always accurate. There have been several times the Bmw is telling me the speed limit is 65mph when it's 35mph because the rode is near a HWY. last thing I need is to start rocketing up to 65 next to a park. Get arrested for reckless driving and then I sue BMW. haha

I was wondering how close to that you could get with coding.

In newer versions of ACC when you press resume it will keep trying for 30 seconds. So if the car in front moves after 10 seconds the car will start moving too.

Like the thread says I've never done this before. I assume the full shebang method is the way to go to do this? Ie not the bimmercode way...?

I would suggest using Esys - you buy the cable and it comes with tutorials, downloads and pretty much everything to get you going. I would say if anything, the tutorials and docs are geared for people that are familiar with coding. I found the biggest issue was no guide takes you the full way, A to G. They all end with, after doing A-D, then do the rest for your specific model. So I had to piece together the final parts, get over the fear of possibly messing it up, and then stepping into it. Doing the parts, but not applying it to the car, making backups of backups, documenting my steps, learning how to undo what I did. But, now that I added EBT and enabled the anti-dazzle LEDs. The rest is super easy and I do it off-line and apply when I'm ready.
Good Luck! |
