"Yes, they have changed and that's the new oil."

The answer you got is more representative of normal expectations. Anything less than a denial...would have been a surprise!

I may be resurecting the thread a bit, please forgive me.

Last month I did an oil change at BMW and thanks to this post I was curious to see what they put in my engine.

Just like you, they put 0w20 LL17FE+. (At least on the bill).

I was worried and asked my SA if it was correct or just a generic input on my bill.

SA replied that was correct, new oil approved…

Yesterday I had to top 2 quarters and my head was spinning.

So I had they idea to go buy 2 quarters at my BMW aftersales department for my car.

Just went in, gave my client phone number, confirmed it was for my X5 50i 2015.

Guess what they sold me ?

0w30.

Now, I am more confused than ever !

What the hell is going on there ?

Unless you have the X5M with the S63 engine...the N63TU engine (in the X5 50i...even the ones with the "M-pack") can use 0W-30 as it's listed as one of the correct oil viscosities for that engine. The "M-pack" is moreso an "appearance pkg"....and sometimes some brake or suspension upgrades...but the engine is the same one used in the other models that have the same nomenclature. Only the (F85) X5M has th S63 V8 engine...other (F15) X5 50i models have the N63TU V8 engine.

You can pull-up the correct oil viscosity up in the owners manual embedded in iDrive. Simply open the digital owners manual and do a keyword search for OIL...you should be able to easily find the recommended viscosites for your engine/model:
