Vibration issue. - please help

Going to apologize ahead of time for the long post, but I need advise in regards to figuring out my vibration issue.

I bought my X5 in December. That night when I drove it from a large lot where the car was sitting for over 2 months over to the dealership I noticed it had a major shake around 45 MPH. Before I signed the papers I was assured they would balance the tires since it might have some flat Spots.

I brought it back two weeks later and they replaced the left rear tire since it had major road force and couldn't be balanced.

The following days I noticed the shake was better but it was still present. This time around 72-80 MPH. The dealership rechecked all 4 wheels and tires and road forced balanced them. The issue still persisted and they told me it's me feeling the road and that the tires are not the issue.

This vibration most feels like it's coming from the rear as I can see the seat shake when I reach around 72-80 MPH. Since they replaced the back left tire I thought to myself that maybe if the back right tire is replaced this issue might go away.

I took it upon myself to order a new back right tire and had the dealership replace it and roadforce balance it. All came into spec.

I just drove yesterday from Orlando to Miami for over 3 hours and at speeds from around 72mph and much higher around 95 mph I still feel a very high frequency vibration that can be felt through out the entire car and you can't see it visibly through the seats or steering wheel but it can be felt. It's very annoying and I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks.

My X5 is brand new 2017 sDrive35i with the standard suspension and the 20" rims. Tires mounted are OEM Perelli P Zero 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 rear.

Any help or thoughts I'd appreciate.

None. All 4 were checked and no bends.

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago and it took the dealer a long time to figure out that the tires were bad, never really got a clear explanation what the problem was. They had to order a couple of different sets before they found ones that didn't have the problem.

I'd love to be able to switch out to None RunFlats. As I am thinking the combination of 20" tires plus super wide 275 front and 315 rear with low profile and Runflats makes them harder to balance out. I keep thinking it's a balancing issue since it has that characteristic of out of balance/hoop around 75-85 mph. I feel it from the rear and also felt slightly in the steering wheel.

This is driving me nuts.

Actually, I just took my car to the dealership for a similar vibration problem. It turned out to be bad motor mounts and they ordered the part waiting for them to install it next week. will keep you updated if this solves the vibration...

Yes! I feel the slight vibration from 60 miles to around 80-85.. for me it feels like its coming from the ground but I guess the whole car is vibrating.

Actually the service adviser told me he felt it even from 50 miles after he drove the car. Probably you have the same problem let your dealer check the engine mounts.

Steering wheel shake is usually fronts, butt vibration is rear tire in my experience. let us know what they say

Have the dealer verify the alignment; make sure they provide print-out from alignment machine.

Many people complain about the run flat tires, but nothing you can really do there if you don't want to buy a new set of non-run flat tires to rule them out completely.

Vibrations can be very tricky to run down as anything in the drive can contribute. We picked our new 2017 X5 up at the PDC in SC and I complained about a vibration that felt more like a wobble (an oscillation) that would come and go at various speeds. First dealer in Memphis stated they checked balance and all was good, blamed it on the run flat tires; this was at about 300 miles on the new car.

Complained about it again when we got back to home dealership (about 1500 miles) and they stated the tires were in fact out of balance....maybe got worse over the next 1200 miles, but so far the car "feels" better. Might be worth taking it to a true tire shop and have them take a look....course that will cost you $100.

I recently purchased a 2017 X5M 50D and have the exact same high-frequency vibration, as you originally descibe. It is almost not noticeable to some, but very noticeable to me, which is so frustrating. Have put new tires on the rear.

I'm having a similar issue, Michelin PilotSport4S, road force balanced twice with no issues. Dealership replaced the front prop shaft, thrush bushings and transfer case with zero improvement. Then they replaced the front two wheel bearings with an improvement but the issue still persists. Vehicle is at the dealer as we speak.

Unusual but informative thread.

OP mentioned that all four tires were road force balanced. This usually takes care of the majority of vibration issues. If the vibration persists in the rear, drive shaft and wheel bearings should be inspected.
