Cbozz rear BBK retrofit for F85/F86

I’ve been wanting to get that ugly rear caliper off the car for a while now so finally time has come!!!
I almost pulled the trigger on the Tronik's rear bbk retrofit but I was not a fan of the shape of their caliper... I ended up finding a Brembo GT caliper and retrofitted that onto the rear...
I had a custom bracket manufactured and also custom brake pad was manufactured to fit the rear GT4 caliper and also to cover the whole area of the rear rotor... I'm pretty sure Tronik's pad leaves a bit larger rust ring on the rotor... so the brake pad I designed with help of the manufacturer in California (Porterfield Brakes - made out of R4-S compound) is almost twice the size of the OEM and it covers the whole rotor like OEM without any additional rust ring and also looks like the front OEM pad- the portion that is sticking out the caliper..
The pad I designed also has the brake wear sensor slot and it's a low dust ceramic pad made out of their most aggressive sport compound...
swap is a simple and straightforward thing..
breaks work great, maintain the OEM feel since the rear 4 piston ratio to OEM size is about 101%...
I ended up spending over 3 months developing all this and seems like went through a bunch of pad designs and different brackets....
all in all this whole kit including pads without stainless steel lines ran me about $1300 so compared to $1600 plus pads from Tronik I think it was a no brainer...
If someone is interested in this PM me. I can get these for you... I'm definitely all for getting rid of those ugly rear floaters!

Enjoy!

I am the first customer of Chris. And this is the BBK exactly what i wanted. The Porsche BBK is just wasn't for me since the design is way out of my league. This is the same BBK i have on my E93 M3 on the rear end. And now having this is just completes the BBK on my F85 and looks identical to Ceramic BBK kit rear caliper!

I went with the OEM color option and the color is i think even better than the OEM one

Chris spent tremendous amount to make this project possible for our cars. The Pad design to Adapter is just perfect. Even better that he went ahead and calculated a pad that covers the entire surface of the rear rotor so there is no rust ring anymore. Plus the pad design is identical to front portion. This is just the best OEM+ mode ever!

I was in a long vacation and just came back. I will be installing them soon

Here is the pics of my Rear BBK :

Thank you Chris for your hardwork! I highly recommend this to anyone!

As one that has the Tronik Rear BBK, this Brembo GT4 kit looks good. Yes, it's thru that the Porsche Panamera brake pad doesn't cover the entire rotor surface, and does leave a ring. I eliminated that rust ring by painting it, with liquid silver spray paint. And since then the rear rotors still look good. But I have to admit having a pad that covers the entire rotor would be nice.

I would also argue the that Tronik rear caliper is torsionally stiffer as it has a bridge between the left and right banks eliminating any flex.

But overall, that is a nice setup, a lot of thought and effort went into it. I wish someone had done this research before I purchased the Tronik kit, could have saved me $300. 😢

There is 2 reason i went with Brembo GT BBK Kit. 1- Design 2- I got pissed off Tronik by making astronomic number of a BBK adapter for the Porsche Panamera Caliper. It is a Joke. I did offer him to lower the price that he listed on the other brackets which was about $300ish , but No he did not. All my money goes to Chris no issue there!

I recommend painting your rotor hats as part of this mod (and when you get new rotors) because they get ratty after a while. I recommend painting them black if you have black wheels and silver if you have regular wheels.

I would order them from Pelican Parts, as they are much cheaper than the dealer. I believe, I paid $350 for the front and $315 for the rears a few years back.

One of the cheapest parts place online is Husker BMW (a.k.a bmwdirectparts), but they charge shipping (no tax to NJ and probably the same to NY). They have them for $323 fronts $255 rears. I'm not sure if Pelican charges for shipping, but their prices are the same as FCP Euro and FCP does not charge shipping for on orders over $50 and has the lifetime replacement option. They have them for $385/$304 f/r. One last trick is to create an account on FCP, add them to your cart and then leave it. You will get an email that they are still holding your cart and then get another email the next day with a 5% coupon, which comes close to negating the 6.625% tax in NJ...sucks to be in NY in this case.

I am so down for this! Question tho, what happens when it's time to replace pads? Will they only be available through your designer?

It’s a caliper, bracket, caliper to bracket bolts, and brake pads you can order online from Porterfield brakes, I’ll give you the part number for my custom pad I designed with them…

You can buy them online, Porterfield brakes have my design on file so they will make it… I think they require 5 day lead time or something like that but it’s not long…
