Connected Drive must be ordered at POS

For Canada at least:
ZTY Connected Drive Services Prof w/ARTII
Includes 7 items such as Internet, BMW Apps, Real Time Traffic etc.
Then you need to subscribe for monthly internet access.

For MY2014, the maps sent from Google to car is ONLY functional with ZTY.

For MY2013, the maps feature were free for the first year. After expiry it can be renewed without activation cost, only annual fee applies.

I did not get ZTY, oh well. However the new Idrive touch controller is easy to use, less cumbersome than the old method of entering letter by letter via scrolling. Of course there is voice activation, which I have not yet tried.
