No Third Row Seats

Its not official but my ability to have 2 ///M cars in the stable just went out the window. I just learned that the new X5/6 M will NOT have the third row. Like the E70, the rear suspension carrier is going to different to accommodate the new suspension which eliminates the ability to have the third row. OH well... Looks like the E70 will be sticking around longer and will be adding a software flash and some suspension...

Yes, installing the 3rd row package on the F15 automatically adds rear air suspension, so I am guessing it is a no-no for the M engineers

Looks like ///M engineers opted for rear air suspension. I guess it is a yes-yes now

http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1052311 If you read the Tech Specs/Date section it clearly states it in the "Suspension, rear" section....

"Integral-IV rear axle with M-specific elastokinematics, spatially-acting suspension with anti-squat and anti-dive, air suspension with automatic self-leveling"

The E70 x5m had a modified suspension carrier which would not allow the X5 to have the third row. From what I have learned, the f85 x5m rear suspension setup will not allow for the third row. It is not official yet but I am not optimistic it will happen

The X50d in Europe (basically a diesel X5 M) can add third row, but eliminates the M specific suspension.

I'm very confused about this..

Just because the X50DM is an "M" labeled car does not mean that the suspension setup is the same as the X5m F85. The X5M is new and does not sound like it shares suspension with the X50DM thought they have a "M specific suspension. It may be an suspension which was tuned by ///M engineers using M specific springs, anti-role bars, shocks ect yet still retaining the Non-M actual suspension. It may have some similarities but until people can actually examine the new M suspension up close we are only speculating. This is all speculation but if the F85 is like the E70 X5M(which had a different suspension carrier than its E70 non-m counterpart) then the chances of a third row may not be possible.

The X7 is supposed to have a proper/full time third row like the Merc and Infinity. I do not envision BMW making an M version of the X7 since it would be inline with the 7 series which has not had a M version created.

The new x5m most likely does not share the same suspension as the M50d

Just got confirmation from an "insider" that it's available in US - waiting to confirm if it comes up when placing an order.

Really...the third row in these things is worthless. More like 2.5 rows. I dare any of the owners that sit in the driver seat to go back there for longer than 5 minutes while the vehicle is in motion and report back that "it is a great design, well thought out, with plenty of useable space." And Holy Hell now you are worried about it in a X5M. If you really need it, intend to put a person back there (or small dog), and care about your occupants purchase a GL, Escalade, or minivan. This is like a segment of "C'mon Man" on ESPN. Leave the third row where it belongs...in a non-M vehicle. The X5 portfolio should not even have one..they are worthless.

Ok, I dare anyone who feels the 3rd row is useless have to take 4 adults and 2-3 kids in an X5. We could take 2 cars or just put two kids in the 3rd row and problem solved. Believe me I am not looking for the 3rd row to fit basketball player hell I could care less about any adults. I DO CARE about kids which we do haul around. I don't want a MASSIVE GL, I don't want an in inspiring no horse power Audi, I WILL NEVER EVER own a shitty minivan and would never purchase a 70k truck with caddy interior.

I would tell the other adults to drive separately. "we will meet you there" works for well.
