Yep, sure do. I may be way off, but I just assumed it was some sort of heat sink to help cool part of the car, and the location would provide plenty of wind to dissipate the heat. Kind of like what you find on a lot of computer processors, but larger.

It's a heatsink, designed to dissipate heat. The diffs on all M cars have them in various sizes.
