Ordered an X5 xDrive40e

Hey guys, new to this section of the site but wanted to say hello.

Just ordered my wife an X5 xDrive40e. Was debating between this and the X5 50i but decided to give hybrids a shot. Any words of wisdom? She will be coming from an X3 and we have no hybrid or plugin experience.

Build:
X5 xDrive40e
Mineral White Metallic
Ivory White and Black Nappa Leather + Design package
Brushed Aluminum Trim
Cold Weather Package
Driver Assistance Package/Plus/ACC Stop & Go + Active driving assistant
Lighting Package
Luxury seating package
20" double spoke black wheels
Premium package
Ceramic controls
Parking assistant
Rear manual side window shades (for the newborn )
Apple CarPlay
HK sound system
M Sport

last update was it might be ready for delivery this weekend! Fingers crossed, we're excited. Spent a lot of time deciding between X5/X6/Levante but in the end the X5 is the most practical and safest choice.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase. Very nice build. I know you're going to enjoy it. First thing I got was the paint protection film. I got the full front and hood wrapped. It was a great investment. If you are considering this, tell your dealer not to prep the car for delivery. Take it directly to the film installer and let them take care of the exterior. You might want consider tinting the front driver/passenger side windows too. The windshield is notoriously thin. So try not to tail gate or get behind a gravel truck .... Better yet, any truck. There is also coding and modding .... No, that's for next week! Lol. Enjoy your truck!

Yup agree with Neuero09 commented. We didn't get the Dealer to remove the shipping wrap and went straight to get PPF installed.

You'll love the 40e. We got pretty much the same build minus the leather dash.

Thanks guys, yeah we're really looking forward to it. (Me more than my wife, she just wanted a bigger SUV)

I've never done the PPF before, didn't get it on the M3. I'll do some research on local places here that can do it.

Did you invest in getting a 220v charger installed in your garage/home or stuck with the simple plugin 110v?

Certainly nicely optioned. The LED headlighs are probably my second favorite item.

My father just took delivery of his 40e and he loves it so far.

Looks great and congrats! I really like the black wheels!

We love our 40e. My wife drives it a lot and for mostly short trips, so we get great MPG.

I did not at first, but I put one in when power company started offering $500 rebate. It is a difference between 8 hr vs 3 hr charge.

Congrats on the new car. Good call on installing the electric charger. One of my neighbors got a 40e for a few months ago, but since replaced it with a 35i as of this month. He never charged the car so it made no sense to get a plug-in hybrid.

Personally, my problem would be that I live 20 miles from where I need to go, so the lack of range on electric only would be a major issue for me.

Why would it be a major issue? The first 13 miles or so of your trip would be on electricity and then it would change over to a standard hybrid functionality and get you to your destination. In the long run you would still be saving fuel. Not sure I understand your concern.

That's my hope. My wife works from home most days so most of her driving is running errands around town. I think she'll see a good boost in her fuel economy and be able to take full advantage of the 'full electric' mode most days.

Agreed. Even in Auto (hybrid) over the last 2000Km we have been averaging 8.1 L/100km, and this is purely city driving!

I drive an M3 too and think the acceleration of the 40e is great for an SUV!

We are waiting on the new iCharger to come out this Fall. Should have some updates over the current BMW one. It also helps that our govt has a $1K rebate.
