Replace both front tires if one gets a flat?

I may need to replace my passenger front...has ~16k miles on it. Do I also need to replace the driver front?

Thanks!

It's up to you. I don't think it matters that much.

I would just replace that one tire, and then when the other three are sufficiently worn, the money you didn't spend can be used to replace all four at the same time.

Shouldn't it depend on how much thread life you have left?

at 16K miles I would think thats a good idea to replace both. With AWD cars they are much more sensitive towards different rolling diameter between axles.

I had a blow out on my rear wheel/tire and only replaced that one side since i only had 5-6K on the tires. The tread wear was minimal on the good side so i didn't replace it. No issues so far.

I had 5/32 left out of 11/32, and BMW said I don't need to replace both tires.

I agree with Alan, I would replace both. Keep the take off "good" tire as a spare for future. OP, what's the reason for replacement?

Tire warranty was denied since the tire wasn't loosing air. Side wall had a pretty good slice in it. Not sure how it happened.

you should replace both tires. I went through a similar ordeal recently due to an alignment issue on the driver side rear wheel which shredded the inside edge of the tire. BMW SA said the vehicle can tolerate a larger wear difference front to back but there is a lot less tolerance side to side. As a result I had to purchase 2 new tires on the spot as my damaged tire was apparently near exploding.
