Cost of replacement front bumper

Long story short - drunk driver in front of me decides to slam on his brakes going 65mph. Thanks to our awesome brakes I was able to get away with barely nudging his tow hitch.
Of course no insurance...anyone have the experience to tell me how much this will cost me?

Call up your local BMW dealer and see if they have a body shop. They'll be able to give a really good estimate.

No insurance??? Are you not going through insurance or did the driver not have insurance? Hopefully there was a police report.

There should be underinsured motorist insurance.

If you're replacing the front bumper... order the Euro bumper. Much cleaner.

Well your insurance should cover uninsured motorist... unless you opted out of this somehow.

Right, but rates/premiums might still go up as any claim made on your policy has ramifications. That's why you do the comparo of how much out of pocket to repair vs making a claim.
OP, when I had my rear bumper cover replaced, it was ~$1.4K IIRC. All depends on whether there is any damage to the underlying structures once your front cover is removed. MSport covers are much more expensive vs no/X-line.

Let me put it this way. It all depends if the front bumper is repairable or need to be replace .
Just for the front bumper fascia between part # and paint you might be looking at over $800.
Now if there is more part #'s needed well i will say about $1000.00 easily.
Just in misc parts that the plain bumper cover needs should be a lot more than that.
Hey just go to the bmw authorized body shop and they will give you a quote and if you have insurance hopefully only $500 deductible you should be ok

false. it depends which portion of your policy covers the repair. if it is part of the comprehensive it will not increase rates.

True, but bumper repair due to a fender bender/uninsured motorist would never fall into comp category. It's collision. Regardless, just wanted to provide the OP with some info that he/she requested.

i was correcting the part that "any claim" will make the rates go up... typically in the event of a collision payout you will see a premium increase but anything filed under comprehensive will not hike up your premium.

Agreed. I think this should be <$1500 total at the end of the day. Not worth going through insurance at this time.
Thanks for all the advice! Will likely wait until next year or something.

This is a stupid question - but will body parts be cheaper on this X5 when the next gen X5 comes?

No. Parts are too damn expensive, period.
As cars get older, lack of volume for specific parts will prob drive the prices higher.

Fender bender?
Look, get it fixed and move on. Insured/ under insured shenanigans... if fixing bumper makes sense via insurance... go through insurance. If not, then pay))))

IMHO - There is no such thing as free money... Insurance companies exist to make money and all claims will have ramifications as Doanster suggested earlier. That money comes from our pockets if not directly then indirectly with rate increases whether it is state wide mandatory or individuals. Compare the cons and pros and make your decision.

I just had a bumper repair done due to bumping someone stopped in front of me at a red light. (We were both making a right turn and I thought the other driver had turned once traffic cleared...)

Total repair was $4700, this included right front headlight (LED) which had broken mounting tab and this was $2700 of total.

The other $2000 was to repaint bumper, fix other interior brackets not visible until after bumper cover was removed, and repair headlight washer.

If you need to replace bumper cover, it's going to arrive unpainted I think, so you could easily be above $2000 for this repair.

I'm wondering if installing a front license plate bracket will cover up the damage?
