iDrive 5.0 as an upgrade?

Anyone had their car upgraded to iDrive 5.0? Is it a software upgrade, or hardware based for 2017 builds forward?

It needs a touchscreen so it is a hardware change.

Does not need a touchscreen, but does require a HU_NBT2 (AKA HU_NBT_EVO) head unit plus new firmware.

So here's another question. Do you guys think '17 iDrive will be software upgradeable to iDrive 6.0 in the new 5 series?

Same hardware, different software. Many others have installed idrive5 and idrive6 on the same unit.
