Love the truck-like look and stance of the F15 - this is how SAV/SUV's should look.

Although I've never been a huge fan of M-gear or labels on a non-M vehicle, the way they packaged the F15 leaves me no choice - it's the best fit for the F15 and turns a medicore design into something special. While I like the x Line as well, it falls short on its content and I would have to make too many compromises.

First - while the x Line gets you a sports steering-wheel, you don't have the option to got the sport-transmission which means no launch control and paddle shifters.

In addition, you can't get a shadow-line exterior or an Anthracite headliner, either. I also prefer the 20" wheels and the way they are designed, they look a bit strange on the x Line (a mountain-climber with running-shoes...). Although I like the color and shape of the x Line 19" wheels, I find them too small and too narrow for the F15's size.

Although, BMW claims xLine for Off Road activity but its more like luxury look. IMO, the luxury package is waste of money and not luxury indeed. The xLine is not meant for off road but looks more luxury given exterior enhancements.

What is so special about sports steering wheel?

I agree. Either M Line or x Line is the way to go.

As far as I know, it is a bit thicker than the standard and it has some special "edges" at the 10 and 2 o'clock position to give you a better grip/avoid slipping. It also has some chrome on it.

EDIT: Here it is:

The leather is different too. The sport steering wheel has a finer leather and a nicer feel. It is a bit more delicate.

For the price difference ( seperate option of 200 € in Europe) definitely go for a sport steering wheel

The big slot in the front bumper and the fogs look weird. Good opportunity for aftermarket guys.
Other than this it is a one big beauty.

This is interesting. The pic you have borrowed is actually a xLine F15. Sport Leather Steering Wheel is standard in xLine. Not sure why the basic one got into this one.

seriously, there is nothing on this car that says M-Sport. It looks so awkward to me. Looks like the 4 series stock bumper.

Ouch... you need to get a test drive with a sports steering wheel... But first check whether you can retrofit one on your own car, cause you might not want to drive the standard one afterwards. At least I know I don't want to anymore.

Like 760Lifan says, it's thicker and has those special edges. Its radius is also smaller than the standard one. This applies to all BMW sports steering wheels. The chrome might be an F15 thing, I don't know. I'm only talking about things that feel better when driving.

The reason for that could be that this is not a US-version (or, it could also be a pre-production version). The German version, i.e., does not come with a sport steering wheel standard on the x Line. The "borrowed" pictures also show an Anthracite headliner - and that wouldn't be available on the x Line in the US, either.

Yeah. You are right. I see the steering you have described in the configurator. Thanks for clarification. I have just found another reason to go for xLine

It's a pre-production car. There were a few other details that wee not consistent with the different packages, but I don't have pictures of those...

I had no idea this vehicle is still being "spotted."

I was in Spartanburg, SC for PCD on July 2nd and saw about 3 of these things parked out back. No camo!

They were actually this color too. I don't keep up with the X series of vehicles but I wish I had taken some pics for you guys.

Hello all. I apologize in advance if this is answered elsewhere. I am looking to get this exact X5 M sport in space grey. Why do some pictures like these show the "whiskers" strips on the lower front bumper while most do not? I prefer the look without them personally. Thanks

It's the M50d that has them. The normal Msport for the other engines don't.

I'm starting to like this new design. Viewed the new 2014 Range Rover Sport S/C last weekend and it looked weird. It had too much Evoque cues in it that made it look cheap. The interior was the most disappointing with more plasticky dash and more bland looking than the previous Range Rover Sport.

Hope they improve the stiff steering and stiff ride with the new X5. I still drive a 2003 X5 4.4i which I bought new and it is still amazing to drive. Those turbo V8s just don't feel the same anymore.

Funny you mention the range rover sport 2014. I saw a few last week. What a massive disappointment that vehicle is in person. Nothing like the photos.

However I didn't think the new x5 could look any worse, but this one goes to the top of the list. Now the front looks as bad as the back. This vehicle looks like a complete design disaster.
