Vibration between 70 and 85 MPH - X5 xDrive35i
Hi guys, this weekend on the high speed highway I felt that when I reached 70 MPH, a slight vibration begins that increases until it reaches 80 MPH and then it decreases until it disappears, starting at about 85 MPH. I could not specify if it comes from the steering wheel or from the front, because it is very light although clearly perceptible.
Everything is perfect at higher speeds. Any good idea what it could be? Last edited by pochy51; 11-02-2020 at 10:42 PM.. |

Tires, alignment or suspension parts.....
Check the tires for proper pressures and for abnormal wear. Do you see any missing wheel weights? You can sometimes notice missing weights by residual glue/tape on the wheel barrels, assuming you keep the inside of your wheels clean. If you are running a square setup swap the front tires with the rears and see if that helps. If you have access to a balancer you might want to have them rebalanced. If you know anyone with an X5 see if they will swap tires with you for a quick test drive. If the problem goes away, it's a tire issue. If the problem remains it's in the suspension. And yes, swap all four to make sure. Obviously, check the wheels for slight bends. Once that all checks out, I'd take the car somewhere to have the suspension checked for worn parts. And then the alignment. I know a lot of people say it's the alignment, but in my experience, it rarely is and most of the time it's tire balance or a tire issue (belt separation or sidewall issue). Good luck. |

I experienced the issue you’re referring to a couple weeks ago. Took my X5 35i in to the shop and tires needed to be balanced. Now it’s rides perfect.

Go to a shop that has Road Force balancing capabilities.
