Lane departure rattle noise

Is the lane departure suppose to make a rattle noise in the steering wheel when it activates? I can feel the vibration but also hear a rattle sound for as long as the wheel is vibrating.

Mine rattles from time to time. Asked BMW to take a look at it, but of course they couldn't reproduce the issue. I haven't had time to dig into it, but mine sounds like it's coming from the steering column.

Logically it looks like something is loose in the steering column make make it rattle when it vibrates.

Took it in today, the service guy wanted to hear it. Once he heard it they took it in. So I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Mine just started doing this, annoying buzzing rattle, at 42k miles.

It is out of warranty now, but looking at the CPO, it covers the electrical components, but does not cover interior rattles.

Anybody having this successfully replaced under CPO warranty?

Mine does this too. I thought this was normal. It rattles so loud that I turn it off. Guess I'll be taking mine in too

The lane departure system yes, kinda useless. But the active blind spot detection also uses the same system and it started rattling in addition to the standard feedback it is suppose to give.

I am out of b2b warranty, so please let me know if anybody had this issue and CPO covered it

Maybe its different with different technology packages but I press the small round button by the hazard button and disable to lane departure warning but it retains the blind detection feature which doesn't vibrate anything?

Best thing to do is send an email to your service adviser at your local dealer and ask.

Interesting. I drive the lane departure aid off, but I do get the same steering wheel feedback when somebody is in the blindspot and if I am about to switch lanes.

This is correct. Steering wheel vibrates if you signal to change lanes when blind spot detection is indicating someone in your blind spot.

I've never tried to change lanes while my blind spot detection turned on and there was a car there. So I've never experienced any vibration on the steering wheel.
