Paddle Shifters retrofit?

I was thinking of highjacking Koer's thread on this but that is not nice.

So, just took delivery of a built my own 2017 X5 35i. The only "miss" I made in ordering was paddle shifters - I used them more on my 550 than I thought.

Obviously, I did not order the M package option - so can my new X5 be retro fitted with paddle shifters or an M steering wheel with paddle shifters or ...?

Our parts guy filed a technical ticket with BMW regarding my question. Just got the answer back that this is a "no-go" retro fit.

I'm sure I'll get used to the stick only method within the next week

It used to be do-able. Maybe BMW changed the modules, but so far I know 2 people that can't get the paddle to work properly.

r33 - it would be a nice to have but not that big a need of mine - certainly not enough interest to get into a retro hardware / coding headache. I remain thrilled with the new X5 and this will require a very minor recoding between my ears and all will be fixed

HEY! lol don't worry, i've had enough headaches trying to get it to work, i'm glad i'm not the only one having trouble.

Would be interesting to know why exactly it is a no-go retrofit? is it a module or just wiring to the tranny and back? which is what i suspected from the research i made. Just to put my mind at ease.

Did it have anything to do with the wheel i bought??
