Wheel & tire insurance

I purchased my x5 with 19" with wheel and tire insurance. I bought 20" wheel and tire to change during the summer. I just found damage on one of the tires on the 20". Would Bmw will cover the 20" ?

As long as the tire is "star approved" run flat you should be covered.

Read your contract. I attached the back of mine for my M4. I did not take the coverage for the X5. Assuming it is the BMW coverage, OEM or OEM approved tires and wheels are covered (para 2d).

However...
Only structural damage applies to tires; see Limitations of Coverage, para e & f. Paragraph f does not mention cosmetic damage to tires.

But....
Never hurts to ask your dealer.

This isn't clear to me. But I thought the moment you changed your tires, your contract for the warranty ended. In this case, I suppose if you used the same tire, they can't tell, unless there's unique serial codes on the tires...

But then the BMW tire warranty stated there's a term on page 1, which isn't attached. This implies they'll continue to cover replacement tires subject to certain conditions (maybe you have to buy the proper brand or through dealer network?)

I would have gotten the wheel and tire insurance if it covered curb rash . But I am curious if you buy a second set of wheels and tires from BMW, say a winter set, if that warranty covers them. I moved from Germany and always would run a summer and winter set.

There is a term, I paid for 5 years. As I read it though, it only covers OEM wheels and OEM approved tires.

The policy does cover curb rash, but only if it can be repaired. If the cosmetic damage does not affect the wheel's function/structural aspects, then a repair is all you are entitled to.

The policy applies to whatever wheel is installed on the vehicle, so yes on summer versus winter wheels. What is not really clear, is regarding non-OEM wheels. I think they would be covered as well, but would only be replaced with OEM approved wheels, so the real question is if the aftermarket wheel is BMW OEM approved; probably not, so you would get whatever OEM approved wheel that was most similar to the wheel on the vehicle.

I got this for my M4 and it was a waste. It took forever to get the dealer and representative to replace just one of my rims over the last two years. Basically the cost of the insurance was still more than the cost of two rims. Probably best just to pay as you go, and this is coming from someone that drives on the shitty streets of San Francisco.

Any idea why so long? Would have thought any delay would only be in ordering the wheel. Of course, if coming from Germany, could be a while. With two replacements, I would have thought you would have come out ahead with two replacements. Roads are crappy here in Colorado also and at $1200+ for a single 666 wheel, figured I'm more likely than not to get my money back within the 5 year term. But for what I paid, I would need two replacements or a replacement and a couple of repairs, so may have been better to just pay for it when it happens.

The dealers have or can easily get the wheels, but someone has to approve the replacement of the wheel. Just like any insurance company they're looking for ways not to do it. For example mine was noticeably bent, but since it held air they made it tougher to get a replacement.

I had 3 wheels replaced under the tire and wheel coverage. The SA was great at making sure it was covered.

I had another claim for 2 wheels with a not-so-interested SA, and it was denied. I was told that the wheels had to show an inpact point in order to be covered and the dealer agreed with it. Using that idiotic logic, if its out of wound, then it could be only two things: 1) impact or 2) a manufacturers defect. They said it was neither.
