I'm telling you guys the only way to get it fixed is get their attention through customer service na. They want happy customers, don't let service place be your only stop.

Interesting, you must have brought it up as a safety issue. Was it a buy back or a trade assist to get you in a new one? I had a trade assist on my 2008 X5 4.8 that NA would not do much until I brought it up as a safety concern then it was quic

My understanding on this issue now is that BMW Germany are in fact working on a permanent fix - no timeframe though
I was told about this a few months ago but didn't think to update the thread. This information came from BMW Australia's own GM who was driving an X5M and experienced the sound for himself.

Well my clicking is back worse than ever after the friction plate fix. It lasted several thousand miles, but eventually came back. I'm about due for another service so I'll see what they do now.

Clicking started on my '17 right around 7000 miles. 8600 miles now. Waited until the car was due for oil service to address it. Dropped the car off yesterday... anxious to see what they say!

They are also addressing squealing brakes... new pads (part # 34-11-7-852-969). I'm told this is a "new" compound, but SA didn't seem to confident on that... |

12,000 miles 2016 model. I have the click now that is the loudest while in reverse and the wheel turned to the passenger side direction, worse when locked all the way. It is still there, but not as loud while turning in forward motion. I get the brake squeal now and again, but have got it on all the last few vehicles I have owned with massive brakes.
Mines a lease, so Im not loosing much sleep over it, but don't want the bearing to scatter on me as Im leaving on a 3,000 mile journey. I just noticed the noise today and figured I would hit this thread to find the fix, but jeez, the Krauts are still scratching their heads after damn near a year and a half.... Maybe a GMC Yukon and a year or two old 911 might be a good replacement a year and a half from now. |

The third set was the fix and I was told the same by the SA. Whether it was or wasn't a new compound it worked.

Well my damn clicking is back. I'm at 10K miles and I can't remember if this is 2 or 3 fixes. I gotta look. I'm calling them when I get back from a work trip, bringing it in, and then setting the hounds loose. This is goofy. Think about how many cars can drive around without the clickity clack noise. But, no, not this 100K$+ vehicle. Nonsense.
EDIT - looked back and already had fix #3. Time to give me new car, thanks. I love the car otherwise. But this is just goofy. C'mon...

Brought mine in today at 4000 miles. Clicking was getting louder and louder at left and right turns. Even at higher speeds. Also having them take a look at squeaky breaks and rattling carbon fiber dash trim.

At least thats how i see it. While i agree that no new car's brakes should click or squeak this is just a trade off of having really good pedal feel and shorter stopping distances in the M. I had a F15 35i prior to my F85 and that car had dead silent brakes but let me tell you the stopping power is NOWHERE near the M nor is the pedal feel. Not even close.

Oooh, so this is the noise I was wondering about when I heard it as I was turning around in a parking lot? I was so concerned I came out of my car expecting to find a rock chip stuck in the tire tread but all looked fine and I was left scratching my head. I just got the X6M and whereas I'm already disappointed with the squeaky brakes, this wheel bearing noise is now getting me pissed off for such an expensive car. I will call BMWNA. This is unacceptable!

Mine only clicks when near full lock on right turns. Interesting thing is that I get a squeal/squeak when near full lock on left turns that sounds like the brakes, but I'm not touching the brake pedal. I have a few thousand more miles before it goes in for regular service so I'll have them look at it then...

About to do buy back here in Florida on our 16, 3 times already in, they only get 1 more shot. I dont believe this issue can be fixed, so it seems buyout is inevitable.
RE: Squeaking brakes, thats just how Brembos are. This is my 4th car with Brembo brakes and they ALL do it. Sometimes more or less then other times, maybe humidity changes it, i dont know. Last edited by OneStepAhead; 07-24-2017 at 08:58 AM.. |
