Drivetrain Malfunction - Limp Mode

What's this about any idea? 2016 X5M
Turned the car on, wasn't driven hard beforehand, had a couple hours to rest, got in it, turned it on, and immediately the warning came on. I can't drive it above about 3,000 rmp. I will do some research and see what I can find. Any insight? Have almost 12,000 miles on it.

I already had the car connect to BMW service to schedule an appointment... we will see.

Did you try turning it off and on a couple of times to see if it would clear ?

could just be a sensor or a cylinder misfiring

Cleared after 8 restarts and driving around at various slow speeds. Hasn't come back on since. We will see.

Did you get gas recently. Check your gas cap.

Try removing your Dinan Piggy? Otherwise, take it in. The only time I've had that warning on a BMW was a leaking vacuum hose. Very minor.

Or bad sensors as I have seen a bunch of times on N20 N55.

I was at a dyno day on the weekend and a couple of cars went limp (limited RPM).

Locking and unlocking 3 times reset them from memory.

Greetings,

I just experienced the drivetrain malfunction.
When accelerating the car feels like its bumping, I can hardly get to speed.
I let it sit for one hour and the malfunction cleared itself. I got on the highway in comfort mode and all seemed normal. I then gave it some gas and it went back to limp mode.

Has anyone else had this issue recently?

usually misfire and if you have a piggy back you really dont have much to argue. it could be a sign your spark plugs are getting near its end

Had this happen with mine, cleared after two starts. Seems a glitch with Dinan and temps. I have the Dinan piggy as well. Also ended up with a bad mass air flow sensor.
