I have owned a few ///M cars (M3, X6M,M4), but now I drive a 2016 F15 30d since I'm not willing to pay $225,000 USD for an new X5M to be used on traffic jams in a country that has not real freeways, so my question is, should stop using my ///M wallet, ///M hat and ///M polo shirts?

Anyone that does that would NOT be paying OEM prices for badges. That's a $15 eBay badge for sure!

This is the automotive equivalent of stuffing your pants.
Most people will know it's not real and those that don't will find out when it's time to use it.

Definitely seeing it a lot more and more.

I actually saw a first generation X5 with an ///M badge on it last week. There was never an ///M offered for the first gen X5.

I would have taken a pic bit I was on my bike at the time.

It has been addressed a few times already, but we are in agreement... those who understand, know it's a lie... those who don't know, just wouldn't care about the badge.

I'm amazed at the amount of members here who have the letter M plastered all over their non-M beemer but are completely fine with it because the factory added it so they can charge more for the package.

If you can admit that the M on the Msport X5 is silly then it makes more sense to chuckle at others adding M labels.

Why are cosmetic changes ok, but adding a ///M badge is a no no. I’ll use the F10 as an example because it’s done quite a bit with this model. You can make a non-M Sport 528i look exactly like a M5. Add a diffuser, change the exhaust, add a spoiler, change the grilles and the front bumper, paint the calipers, etc. Debadge it, but not put the M5 badge on it and you will get mad props. But, on the other hand you can have an M Sport that has “///M” all over it from the factory. Ten to be exact, but if you go and add one more you are ridiculed and called a faker, etc.

BMW has even taken it to another level like with new models like the G30 M550i. Now they have the ///M on the back next to the 550i. on the front quarter panels, and on the brake calipers. I think the ///M has an entirely different meaning to BMW versus the consumer.

Again, let me reiterate I myself would never add a ///M to my cars (although I do have ///M license plate frames on both of my vehicles) and I don’t have a problem with people making cosmetic changes to their vehicles either, to each his own. I’m just trying to understand the rational between the love for one and the hate for the other.

As you can see no extra ///M badges except for the rear license plate frames!
exactly.

You're amazed because you are not getting it.

Adding a ///M next to the X5 emblem on the rear deck is trying to deceive themselves and the public that they have a X5M... why? Because from the factory that is how the X5M is badged.

Having small ///M badges (without the X5) on the wheels, steering wheel, and door seal plates pays admiration and respect to the BMW Motorsport which they did with the Msport Line. Further badging can be added for BMW engine tunes and other performance mods since after the modifications the X5 is not your standard car from the factory.

The M logos that comes on the factory Msport are subtle. Tiny logos on the wheels, door sills, steering wheel. Far from being overbearing imo. Adding it in the trunk is a completely different story. Only real M cars have it back there and again doing this on a BMW is no different than changing a E350 badge to say E550 in a Merc or swapping that A4 badge out for a S4 in an Audi because one is trying to deceive people that he/she has the higher model.

There is a guy around me that has a F10 535 and he went out of his way to slap 3 M5 badges on his car. Trunk and both fenders. Its pretty sad that people feel they have to do this.

would you be more amazed at the ones who remove their logos? even remove them from their real M or S/RS vehicles?

I bought a M license plate frame for my M3. After reading this, I'm thinking of taking it off. P1et am I a poser? Do you want my plate frame?

I cannot use it either, I just have M Sport. I recommend putting it straight into the wheelie bin.

Don't take it personal since you have a non-m with the m logo all over your X5.

It's silly in both ways; factory and owner added.

If I purchsed the msport package then my preference would be to not have any m logos on my X5. It's fine if you prefer the m logos but why ridicule the owners who add their own "flair"?
