Brake Pads/Rotor life
Hi guys, I just got the warning that rear brake pads are due to be changed in 1000km.
I am currently at 35,000km (21k miles), and when I look at my rear pads they look almost done, but the front ones have a lot more life left in them. Usually I see the front brake pads wear faster than the rear, but in this car my rears have worn down way faster than the fronts. How many miles are you getting on your rotors and brake pads? are your rears wearing out more than fronts? I have to pay for the replacements so I want to try my best not to change the rotors if I dont have to.

I'm at 37,000 km and my computer says I have 4K rear 21k front. But when I check the back there is barely anything left for all 4.
I hate how BMW Canada doesn't cover brakes on the warranty like the US. I hope this won't be crazy expensive. |

I am covered on all service except the brakes. Also hoping that it won't cost a fortune.

I just checked online Front rotors are 370 a piece pads are 300 each. Rear is 290 for rotors and 115 for pads. If anyone knows of a place where we can purchase them cheaper and if there are a better brand of pads to use then oem please let us know!

Will they cover them if the rotors are warped? I just had my fronts replaced because I warped the rotors, so the dealer installed new rotors and pads.

No unfortunately one of the differences with BMW NA and BMW Canada is that rotors and pads are not covered through warranty services. Unless it's literally a defect like any other part and not wear and tear they won't cover it. From what I'm aware they will cover all other services oil changes etc. I have an E63 M6 that I purchased when I lived in the states where I've had both my pads and rotors replaced twice over the life of my manufactures warranty but no luck here in Canada. My brother had an e90 M3 purchased in Canada and moved to the states and got lucky with the brakes because they never realized the difference in warranty coverage until it was already installed.

Hi Mahmood,
Usually on the X models (from experience) the front brake pads wear out earlier than the rear, so I guess it's normal. This is the first time that I've owned an M car so I can't really tell you how durable the brakes are but previously on my '14 X5 they gave me around 10-15k before they were worn out, and never did i ever change them all at the same time.
