Wheel damage?

I just pulled my summer rims from storage today. I went to give them a clean and notice all of them have some sort of "damage" or defect. They all look like old rims that are peeling. I bought the X5 in November and swapped the winter tires/rims about three weeks after. The car was a demo with couple thousand miles, but I gave it a good look over when I bought it and I'm sure there was no damage that I recall. I washed the rims before I store them and I'm certain they weren't damaged. Any thoughts if this is a warranty issue? I live far away from a reputable dealer, so I want to get a feel from you guys before I drive 1.5 hrs just to show them.

Those are wheels that have been repaired. Poorly at that.

Alloy wheel repaired from curb damage. they must have forgot to clear coat it causing exposed aluminum to oxidize.

How in the world could you have missed that damage / piss poor repair

OTOH, I just picked up a new built to order X5 and missed seeing some leather defects on the seats that I wonder how I missed

It happens...

Thanks for the reply.

None of the damage was apparent when I picked up the car. I went through the car inspection indoor and outdoors with a flash light, catching several surface scratches that they had to fix before I took delivery. Anyways, humidity is so high that moss grows on the window rubber seal if I don't wash the car every week, and the break rotors look like they rusted after a long weekend of not driving. My initial guess is the humidity screwed them up since they were inside their bags and in the garage, but I'm suspecting the dealer could have had them fix...but all four? Also, one of the tires has the issue almost all the way around the edge, so maybe manufacturer defect could be the issue? Their is also surface rust in the center cap area that I able to wash off and clean fairly well.
I'm emailing the dealer tomorrow to ask if they got the rims retouched/fix before I took delivery.
If not, I'll contact the regional rep and see if it's a warranty issue.

Well, finally made it to the dealer for an oil change. They are going to replace the wheels under warranty. They have less than 1k mikes since I bought the car and replaced with winter set almost right away. The only issue is the fact that I'm moving in 4 days, so I will have to wait until I get to our new place to deal with it.
Later!

Agreed. They've definitely been repaired, surprised the dealer allowed for replacement at no cost.

Yeah, pretty interesting. Every BMW owner nowadays thinks to seem wear and tear should be covered under warranty.

Yeah...wear and tear for two weeks of driving and 4 months of storage.

Funny you guys can tell exactly what's wrong from this pics and the service manager, along with the regional rep all agree the peeling is some sort of manufacturing defect.

Anyways...I guess it's time to get off the posts with so many angry responses...thanks for all the helpful responses. :

Don't let the occasional offensive response scare you away, most of the members here are very helpful and are very good sports. There are definitely a handful of BMW stereotypes here but you will learn to ignore them...

If this is the dealer you bought the car from I wonder if they knew it was "curb rashed" during a demo ride - poorly repaired - and they knew about it but did not disclose it to you?

No, it was a different dealer, but I'm moving to Spain, so hopefully we can get this issue fixed once we get there.
