Installing CarPlay retrofit shops? SoCAL

Hello I just picked up a 16’ X5 and wanted the apple car play installed. Does anyone know a shop in Southern California that can do the work ? Or is this something a newbie can handle since it’s plug and play ?

I’m new to the BMW scene I came from a Shelby GT350.

Also any reputable shops to take it to get lowered and have work done in general in SoCal you would recommend?

Not difficult at all, just follow the info in the CarPlay thread.

All you need is a T20 screwdriver. Towels or a blanket help protect the leather/trim. Pry tools are optional, and not really necessary.

Ya no need for trim tools. The dash trim just pulls off with your hand no problem.

Just start on the passenger end and pry with your fingers. Hardest part is putting it all back in. Put the MMI box behind the factory unit, move the wires over to the driver side as much as you can and put it back in place. I know some on here will frown, but I did not disconnect the battery...😳. No issues at all.

Any recommendation for the MMI box itself?

There are at least 3 threads about Chinese boxes already. Search, read then ask there.

Well coming from a Shelby GT350 this thing is a cloud on wheels, very happy so far. I’ll just mod it cosmetically pretty soon and that’s about it.

Agreed! Tasteful mods are nice. Good luck with the install, it's really plug n play. Post up if you have questions.
