I've seen photos of the 6WB, but does anyone know of video of it floating around?

1) Cluster Install: The youtube video I posted above should be pretty similar to our instrument clusters - the removal and install should be pretty straightforward for the 6WB as such.

2) Coding: First, we must add 6WB to FA explained in this pdf: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...87&postcount=5. Then, Shawn explained to me that when you first install new ECU, it will not have a CAFD, so you will need to inject one using Detect CAFD for SWE, and then VO Code DKombi and NBT using the steps below:

Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM) => Left-Click on DKombi => Click on "Detect CAF for SWE" => Select the CAFD from latest I-Level => Select OK => Right-Click on DKombi (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select CODE (instructions by shawnsheridan)

That's all there is to it. According the Shawn, the only time we need to remove the 6WB is for any service where dealer will program the car, which is rare. The Kombi/Cluster pops in an out in 5 minutes. Once it has your VIN, you can swap it in and out, and the correct higher mileage stored in BDC will always sync the Kombi/Cluster to the true higher mileage. No coding is needed after popping back in since we already added it originally via the coding explained above.

I'll be ordering the retrofit sometime this week or next week.
Are you serious??

It's available on the 6, 7, and X6. It's just not available as an option on the X5. But, as opasha is attempting, you can buy the part and install it yourself.

The lcd cluster is standard on the X6. I hadn't noticed it at all, but someone mentioned a while ago that the X6 would have 6WB. I went back and check the standard features list and there it was!

Now that the 2015 X6 is showing up on the bmwusa site, I see its called "Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster". They have a picture under Model Highlights > Comfort & Convenience > Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster. Oooooooh.

Already done on mine. I'll post pics/videos and a possible DIY when I get it back from the dealer for the various recalls.

wdimagineer - that'd be great, thanks in advance. Can you remind us again of which features we lose if we 'upgrade' from 6WA to 6WB? If I remember correctly, some of those features were those that you had to code to enable in the first place (lane change in HUD perhaps?). Thanks!

Thank you, @wdimagineer . That would be really helpful.

From what I know, the only thing lost in HUD is the turn signals.

What do you mean by turn signals, a blinker in the hud? I dont have that in my hud.

Anyone have any bugs/problems with the 6wb swap. How big a deal is this?

Please help as I am seriously thinking about a swap. My logic is that it should be an easy swap as I dont think there is so much difference with the 2015 and 2014 model. I bet there is a readiness for this right from the start.

Please inform me of any problems...

With coding, it's possible to enable blinking indicators in the HUD. If you swap out 6wa for 6wb, you lose this ability as somehow 6wb doesn't propagate the active indicator signals to the HUD.

The turn signal blinkers in your HUD are from coding. If you haven't coded this, you have nothing to worry about. This feature is lost when you have the 6WB installed. So far from everyone I've talked to that has done retrofits including wdimagineer and shawnsheridan, there are no issues except for what I just mentioned above. The install process takes 5 minutes, however, like we discussed earlier, coding is necessary:
1) adding 6WB to the FA through VO Coding explained in the pdf I posted somewhere above.

2) then injecting CAFD module through coding as well...I'm pretty positive I also explained these steps above somewhere.

I'll be doing this swap 100% and I will report back when I do. However, I have an order of my mods, so that's why I have to wait for the 6WB. According to wdimagineer, we can add 6WB to the FA at any time. After this is done you must follow this order according to wdimagineer:

"Power down the car. Remove the old. Install the new. Power up. Connect via E-Sys. Load your modules. You'll see it on the bus. Then follow the remaining steps."

When I install mine, I will repost all my steps in order for everyone. If you want to pull the trigger sooner, just order it from bimmer-tech and install it yourself . Takes 5 minutes to pop the cluster in/out, supposedly.

Ok, I decided to skip to this project first and ordered the 6WB from Bimmer-Tech. I'll update you guys on when it arrives, pictures, and install.

Joe, to be totally honest, I haven't the slightest clue, but Bimmer-tech is a big/well known company, so I ordered from them. I'll call them Monday for all the information. That's also why I'm going to post pics. According to wdimagineer, there is no OEM official one for the F15, but that was before Bimmer-tech got this one in stock, so I'm not sure. Maybe he can comment because he is far more knowledgeable than me regarding OEM information.

Thanks Omar, looking forward to your write up. wdimagineer thoughts? Also, off topic subject, does the carbon fiber rear cover work or can it work with the BMW oem hitch?
