Jacking (rear)
I had to jack up the rear end of the car and put it on jackstands last night. Have not seen any posts on how to do that and google could not find any, so here are some pics and a post on it. I used the rear subframe, not the differential.

Yes, it is. Perfect spot. You probably don't need the wood block, but I did it to spread the load just a little better.

Good call on the wood block. Quick and easy way to get the entire rear off the ground.

I assume there is a center lifting puck in the front of the car, but I haven't looked or tried it yet. Anyone?

Supercool, thank you!! I thought they would follow suit with the other newer cars and say the diff is OK. That is certainly easier than what I did. The outboard rear subframe points are an option too.

Sorry to bring up an old threat but just wanted to clarify cuz with the dual exhaust and DHP I can't get to the subframe to jack up the rear.
Anyone get any suggestions. I know you can jack up on the "final drive" but not the "differential case" wtf does that mean exactly?

Lol cmon no one?! Well I guess technically too late anyway as I've jacked it up from that spot. I guess we'll see if anything brakes.

Yeah, I searched all over internet, but couldn't find any definitive answer. X5 with DHP and rear center jack point is a extremely rare combo as it turns out lol. You are in uncharted territory man.

So is my life. Installing my oem X5 hitch and painting my exhaust and rear calipers.
Talk about lost. My driver side exhaust tip won't stop drying grey. And I can't get one of the plugs on the oem wire harness to fit inside the hole in the subframe to save my life.

Is there a reason that the info from the BMW TIS (see post #7 above) that says that you can lift from the rear diff (just be careful not to put weight on the COVER of the rear diff) isn't enough to go on?
Just asking...only because it seems clear to me....plus we just had this discussion about a little over a week ago. Quote:
